Aditya Puri’s career is a testament to his remarkable journey in the financial realm. In September 1994, he assumed the helm as CEO of HDFC Bank, a position he held until his retirement in October 2020. Remarkably, his stewardship of HDFC Bank extended over an impressive 26-year period, solidifying his status as the longest-serving head of a private bank in India.

Before his distinguished tenure at HDFC, Puri dedicated more than two decades to Citibank, where he occupied pivotal roles on the global stage, including assignments in India, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. His tenure culminated as the CEO of Citibank’s operations in Malaysia.

During the interlude between his departure from HDFC Bank and his association with Deloitte, Aditya Puri assumed the role of Senior Adviser with the Carlyle Group, commencing his tenure in November 2020. In this capacity, he provided invaluable guidance to Carlyle’s Asia private equity team, further solidifying his reputation as a venerable figure in the financial landscape.

Aditya Puri is synonymous with respect and distinction within the banking industry. At one point in his career, he held the esteemed title of being the highest-paid banker in the country. Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Aditya Puri is a devoted family man with two children – a daughter named Amrita and a son named Amit. Notably, Amrita Puri has carved her own niche as a Bollywood actor.
