CAT 2018 Everything You Need to Know!

The CAT or Common Aptitude Test is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) each year as a common entrance examination for aspirants looking to pursue MBA or PGDM education in India. CAT scores are accepted by all the IIMs and more than 2000+ business schools across India. The CAT 2018 is scheduled to be conducted in the month of November in 2018 (November 25, 2018 to be precise). Therefore, let us go through all the necessary points we need to know about CAT 2018 in this blog article titled, ‘CAT 2018 – Everything You Need to Know!’

CAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for attempting the CAT 2018 examination, the following requirements must be fulfilled –

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institute with minimum 50% marks or GPA equivalent to that (45% for SC/ST/PWD categories)
  • Final year undergraduate candidates can appear for the CAT 2018 examination but their admission to their respective business school would be on basis of their result of undergraduate degree (whether they pass or fail). Such candidates need to submit a certificate to the Principal/Registrar of the College or Institute latest by June 30, 2019 and have completed all the requirements required to earn their Bachelor’s degree.

CAT 2018 Application Procedure

The application procedure for CAT 2018 is relatively simple, because it does not include too many steps –

  • Step 1 – when the CAT 2018 registrations open, applicants can register online and pay the fees through Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net-Banking methods.
  • Step 2 – when the CAT 2018 admit cards become available for downloading, the applicants can download and print them. Those are to be carried by them to the examination centre.
  • Step 3 – following the CAT 2018 exam, results will be declared on January 2019 and test-takers may download and print their score cards from the official CAT website. Depending on their scores, they may be invited for GD and PI rounds by IIMs provided that they perform that well.

CAT 2018 Exam Paper Pattern

The CAT 2018 exam paper pattern will be such that it shall contain 3 sections including Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. As no official notification has come out yet, depending on the marks distribution of CAT 2017, the exam paper pattern may be as such –

Also, it must be noted that there will be a negative marking of 25% of the total marks allotted to a question for every wrong answer.
