General English Preparation Strategy – Things To Follow

• Read Rigorously – Reading is a habit which does not build overnight. It requires regular effort and interest of the pursuant. Read any newspaper, novel or article you find, start on the lower side and slowly let the interest take you over. Reading not only enhances your knowledge but will help you a lot in understanding the passages asked in the exam.
• Vocabulary build is done slowly over time with consistency. Learn 5 words daily and memorize the words learned over the week on weekend, this will help you stay up to date with the words you have learned. Do not stress if you miss to learn new words someday. Just remember that once you get regular, you will increase your word learning limit automatically.
• Synonyms/Antonyms will require you to go through a long list of words which you will need to walk through daily and memorize them.
• Cloze test analyzes your ability to comprehend English. Here, parts of the sentence will need to be changed. The trick is to understand the context and the theme of the passage. The faster you capture the gist, the more easier it will be to comprehend the passage. Read the passage rapidly twice or thrice before you answer, to avoid mistakes, which will be a game-changer.
• In phrase replacement, the sentence in the question will contain a popular phrase but there will be an error. For this section, most of the phrases will either the popular one or the ones you have studied somewhere or the other. Once you go through a sufficient number of phrases, this segment no longer poses a challenge. • Direct and indirect as well as active and passive voices are parts of grammar that we had all been taught as children. So, it won’t take long to jog your memory.
