For many IT / engineering graduates, IBM is one of the most sought after companies. The International Business Machines Corporation, or IBM is one of the largest multi-national companies, with its headquarters in New York. IBM manufactures and markets computer hardware and software. IBM offers business services, IT service, outsourcing service, financing and training. IBM is the 5th most admired and one of the most innovative companies in the world.

Thus, it is one of the most awaited companies and every year for both campus placements as well as off campus recruitment drives. In this article we would be covering all important points regarding the IBM placements.

IBM Recruitment : Eligibility Criteria
  • 65 % or above in B.Tech , Class X and XII
  • No backlogs at the time of interview

*Note that the criteria is subject to change and the given data is based on the last few placement drives.

IBM Recruitment : Selection Procedure

It consists of the following stages:-

The IBM Test Pattern consists of the following sections:

There is no negative marking in the paper
  • Verbal Ability : Short reading comprehension passages, basic grammar usage questions like fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, paragraph completion, sentence correction, vocabulary, sentence ordering etc. The time allotted to this section is 20 minutes.
  • Number Series & Quantitative Ability : Questions each based on topics like series, algebra, time & work, time, speed & distance, arithmetic, percentages, probability, permutation & combination, profit & loss, HCF, LCM, geometry, etc. This section is of moderate level. there’s a time limit on each question of about 2 minutes.

Only those candidates who clear the written exam will qualify for the next round.

Interview ( HR +Technical )

The candidates who clear the written test are required to appear for personal interview. More often than not the technical and HR interview is combined. Many questions are from C/C++/JAVA, DS, OS etc. Some of the questions asked in the interview are listed below

Non- technical questions

1. Introduce yourself.
2. What is your favourite subject and why?
3. Why do you want to work for us?
4. If company X offers you a better package than us, what would you do?
5. Would you be OK to work in shifts?
6. What have you done in your project?

Technical questions

1. What do you mean by 3NF in DBMS? 
2. What is join in DBMS?
3. What is pass by value and pass by reference? 
4. What is Operating System?
5. Difference between C++ and Java.
6. What is pointer? 
7. They asked some tricky questions on pointer.
8. Also asked to write double linked list programs.
