IBPS Clerk 2022 – Dos and Don’ts

Dos

Exam Preparation

1. Keep your study resources to a minimum. Though there are a lot of materials available in the market, rely only on the recommended sources. Books by R.S Agarwal, Arihant, and Javed Siddiqui are widely recommended by previous years’ successful candidates. Build up your basics with these sources. You can also refer to Oliveboard for mock tests, ebooks, and videos for exam preparation. Do prepare a study plan and a daily schedule and stick to it.

2. Practice maximum. Work out as many online IBPS clerk mock tests as you can. This will help you get an understanding of the actual exam pattern. You will be able to identify topics that you are weak at and work on those. Online mock tests will also improve your speed. After every mock, do an analysis of performance as well as time. With Oliveboard’s mock tests, you get a performance meter that helps you understand your strength and weakness.

3. During your exam preparation, always read topics in order especially in Quant as there are a lot of topics that are interrelated. You will not be able to understand one till you have got hold of the previous topic.

4. Practice mental math as it will save a lot of your time during the exam. Learn tables, square roots, and cube roots. This will avoid rough work on paper; you will be able to do a mental calculation and attempt the answer.

During the Exam

1. For RC in English, do stick to the comprehension while answering. Also, read it carefully before attempting an answer. Reading carefully is important for all the sections.

2. Understand the difference between computer awareness and aptitude and prepare accordingly. While the former one includes basic questions on computers, operating systems, etc, computer aptitude will be based on questions like conversions from binary to decimal and vice versa, coding-decoding, etc.

3. Attempt easy questions first and try to work out as many questions as you can for each section so that you can score high and fulfill the cut-off for each section.

4. Skip questions if you feel they’re taking up too much time. You can always mark them for later and come back once you’ve solved the less time taking questions.

Don’ts

Exam Preparation

1. Don’t prepare for the exam on a surface level. This is in fact true for all competitive exams. Understand topics in depth to attempt questions correctly. Make notes of formulas and concepts and revise them again and again. You can learn shortcuts after understanding the concepts to improve your speed.

2. Being fond of a section is natural but don’t base your preparation on your liking but on your strength and weakness. Spend some extra hours on the topics that you are less confident at.

3. Don’t start a new topic during the last few days. Instead, revise the ones that you have already learned and practice tests as many as you can.

4. Don’t ignore online mock tests as the exam is computer-based. While offline tests will help you improve your knowledge, online tests will give you a feel of the actual exam.

During the Exam

1. Don’t do guesswork and don’t waste time on a question that you are not sure about. There will be a penalty for wrong answers. You should attempt at answering as many correct answers as you can. Therefore, attempt the easy ones that you know from each section.

2. Avoid panicking when you find more than one question difficult. You can always attempt the questions that you can solve confidently and come back to the trickier ones if there’s time left.

3. Don’t overstress yourself. Many candidates compromise on sleep and food and fall sick before the exam. Lack of sleep can also affect performance during the exam. Ensure that you maintain a healthy lifestyle to have a healthy mindset for the examination.
