The examination is held in two phases, the first is the preliminary paper and the second is the main paper. Once the results are out, the selected candidates receive their posting. In the first few years it is less likely that clerks receive a posting that is near their home town. The IBPS Clerk posting location is generally decided by the employer.

The probation period after being posted at a bank branch lasts for 6 months. After this the performance of the clerk is evaluated and accordingly his/her position is made permanent. A clerk can expect a promotion after 3-4 years, depending on their performance.

Certain job responsibilities of a clerk are mentioned below:

  • A clerk regularly interacts with customers and helps them with the deposit and withdrawal of money on a daily basis.
  • It is also the job of the clerk to accept demand drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and cheques.

  • The clerk has to maintain the tally and balance sheet of the bank regularly.
