Eligibility for IBPS Clerk Promotion

There are some rules that candidates need to follow if they want to get promoted from the post of a clerk to a position of higher level.

  • An optional internal test is held for the clerical employees. If a candidate manages to clear this examination, he/she may be eligible for the promotion.
  • IBPS Clerks need to serve a minimum of two years as a clerk before they can apply for a promotion.

There are usually two kinds of promotion that IBPS Clerks can seek, based on their educational qualification, experience and performance in the inter-departmental test.

  1. Normal channel- Employees can clear the examination for the promotion and they would be able to the climb to the post of Officer, based on their experience and seniority. No other qualifications are required for promotion through the normal channel.
  2. Fast track channel- Clerical employees who have served a minimum of two years in the post and who also have a CAIIB or JAIIB degree can seek promotion early on in their careers. These degrees offer a way of bypassing the seniority and experience required for such a promotion from the clerical staff to an Officer in the bank.

Benefits of Clerical to Officer Promotion

  • Clerical employees who become officers will need to serve just a year in probation from the date of joining.
  • If a clerical employee has both CAIIB and JAIIB degrees, they are liable to three increments when they become an officer.
  • These candidates are also eligible to get all the benefits associated with officer cadre from the very first day of promotion. The rest of the perks will be received as soon as the candidate completes their probationary period.
  • Most employees who secure a promotion from their clerical jobs to an officer post are also retained within their home state.
  • Officers are eligible for higher housing loans from Indian banks. For instance, POs are eligible for up to INR 50 Lakhs as loan, while clerks can only get INR 30 Lakhs.

Bank Clerk → Officer / Assistant Manager → Manager → Senior Manager → Chief Manager → Asst. General Manager → Deputy General Manager → General Manager.

Transfer Policy of IBPS Clerk

After the IBPS Clerk 2022 selection exams, the selected candidates will be posted at the branches of banks that have vacant posts. These branches can be anywhere within the country and there is no guarantee that candidates will get a posting near their home. However, transfer policy differs when it comes to women.

Married women are generally transferred to a branch located as close to the residence of their husband as possible. In case of an unmarried women, the posting is generally somewhere close to the residence of the candidate’s parents. After promotion to the officer post, most candidates are retained in their home state.
