IBPS SO (IT Officer) Exam- Frequently Asked Questions

IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) has released the notification of its exams for the selection of Specialist Officers and IT officer exam is the most popular choice among the aspirants.

This post by Oliveboard is intended to answer most of the frequently asked questions about the exam, its pattern, syllabus and the eligibility criteria.

1. When is the last date to apply?

The last date to apply is December 10th 2015 and you can download the admit card after 19th January 2016.

2. Is there any age limit ?

Yes. Only persons who are  between 20-30 years (as on November 1st 2015) can apply. This limit has been relaxed for a few years for reserved candidates (SC/ST/OBC/Persons with Disability/Others). Click here for more details.

3. Can students of any stream apply for the exam?

No. Only the students of the following stream can apply:-

B. E. /B.Tech. Degree (4 years) in 1) Computer Science 2) Computer Applications 3) Information Technology 4) Electronics  5) Electronics and Telecommunication 6) Electronics and Communication 7) Electronics and Instrumentation

Post Graduate Degree in 1) Electronics 2) Electronics and Telecommunication 3)Electronics and Communication 4)Electronics and Communication 5)Electronics and Instrumentation 6)Computer Science 5) Information Technology 6) Computer Applications

Please note that BCA or B.Tech/B.E. (in any other streams which are not listed above) degree holders are NOT eligible for the exam.

4. What will be the pattern of the exam?

A. Reasoning (50 Questions of 1 mark each)

B. English Language (50 Questions of 0.5 mark each)

C. Quantitative Aptitude (50 Questions of 1 mark each)

D. Professional Knowledge (50 Questions of 1.5 marks each)

Total – 200 Questions (200 Marks) in 2 hours. 

5. Is there any negative marking?

Yes. 1/4th of the marks for each question will be deducted if you get it wrong. Hence, for Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude 0.25 marks, for English 0.125 and for Professional knowledge 0.375 marks for each wrong question will be deducted.

6. If I am applying for the IT Officer Post, can I apply for other Specialist officers’ post?

No, you cannot.
