Y V Reddy

Dr. Reddy served as the 21st Governors of RBI and was a prominent member of the IAS (Indian Administrative Service). He also served in the following positions-

  • Secretary, Ministry of Finance
  • Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce
  • Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance
  • Principal Secretary under the Government of Andhra Pradesh
  • Deputy Governor for the RBI

Before he became the Governor, he served as India’s Executive Director on the International Monetary Fund board.

D. Subbarao

Dr. D. Subbarao was appointed as the Governors of RBI for three years, and before that, he served as the Finance Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He has extensive experience when it comes to the field of public finance.

  • He handled flagship study regarding decentralisation in the major countries of East Asia such as Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and China.
  • He worked in public finance issues present in countries like East Asia and Africa.
  • He has written numerous papers on issues related to the political economy of reforms, decentralisation and public finance.

Additionally, he took part in the initiation of state-level fiscal reforms.

Raghuram Rajan

Dr. R. Rajan became the twenty-third RBI Governor. Earlier, he had served the position of Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance. He was extremely interested in the fields of economic development, banking, and corporate finance. Dr. Raghuram Rajan has authored the book “Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy”. The book won him the title of ‘The Best Business Book of 2010’ and the Financial Times-Goldman Sachs award. Additionally, he has co-authored the financial book “Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists” with Luigi Zingales in 2003.

Urjit R Patel

Dr. Urjit R Patel was the 24th RBI Governor. He was the successor of Dr. Raghuram Rajan, and had worked with many state and central level committees, such as the following-

  • Ministry of Power’s Expert Group on State Electricity Boards
  • Committee on Civil Aviation Reforms
  • Group of Ministers on Telecom Matters
  • Prime Minister’s Task Force on Infrastructure
  • High-Level Expert Group for the review of the Defence & Civil Services Pension System
  • Task Force on Direct Taxes (Kelkar Committee)

Shri Shaktikanta Das

Shri Shaktikanta Das is the current Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and is a retired IAS officer. Prior to his appointment at the RBI, he served as the Secretary for the Department of Economic Affairs, Department of Revenue and the Ministry of Finance in the Government of India. When he worked for the Finance Ministry, he was directly involved in the making of eight Union budgets. He has also been the representative of India in international events like SAARC, BRICS, G20, IMF etc. Additionally, he has also served as the alternative Governor in the following institutions-

  • Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)
  • New Development Bank (NDB)
  • Asian Development Bank (ADB)
  • World Bank
