What is the NIACL AO Exam?

NIACL stands for New India Assurance Company Limited and is owned by the Government of India. Recently, it has invited applications for the post of Administrative Officers (Generalist) in Scale – I cadre. The selection would be done on the basis of a national level online examination called the NIACL AO exam.

Eligibility Criteria for the NIACL AO Exam?

Age Limit:

  • Lower age limit : 21 years
  • Upper age limit : 30 years

*Age limit is going to be relaxable for statutory groups.

Education Qualification:

  • a graduate/post graduate in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by Central Government
  • least 60% marks in either of the degree examination for General candidates and at least 55% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates

What is the Exam Pattern & Selection Procedure of the NIACL AO Exam?

For final selection as an Administrative Officer at NIACL, an aspirant will have to clear three successive stages :

  • Phase – I   (Preliminary Exam)
  • Phase – II  (Main Exam)  
  • Phase – III (Interview)

(i) Exam Pattern : Phase – I (Preliminary Exam)

  * For wrong answers: (-0.25) x (allotted marks) will be awarded.

Candidates have to qualify in each test by securing passing marks (clearing sectional cutoffs) to be shortlisted for the next phase.

Approximately 15 times the numbers of vacancies (subject to availability), will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

(ii) Exam Pattern : Phase – II (Main Exam)

The phase – II or Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 30 marks.The descriptive test will be administered immediately after the completion of Objective Test.

  1. Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test will be a 30 minutes test of English Language. It will consist of:

  • Letter Writing (10marks)
  • Essay Writing (20 marks)

 Some key points about selection for subsequent stages are as follows:

  • One has to score a minimum score in each section of the objective test to be eligible for descriptive test evaluation.
  • A candidate will be required to qualify in the descriptive test, but the marks in the descriptive test will not be counted towards short listing for interview.
  • One who qualifies both the objective and descriptive tests would be shortlisted for the interview (based on the cutoffs).

(ii) Exam Pattern : Phase – III (Interview)

  • Candidates who have been shortlisted at the end of Phase-II will subsequently be called for an Interview conducted by the Company.
  • The weightage (ratio) of online Examination and Interview will be 80:20 respectively.

NIACL AO Exam Previous Year’s Cutoffs

Until the last year, the NIACL AO exam was a single tier exam of 200 marks. This is equivalent to the Phase – II i.e. MAIN Exam of the current pattern. For NIACL AO – 2015, the cutoffs are as follows:

Syllabus of the NIACL AO Exam

(i) Quantitative Aptitude

Tables, Pie Charts, Bar and Line Graphs, Probability, Averages Mixtures and Allegations, Ratio and Proportion, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Rate Benefit, Stocks & Shares, Mensuration, Height & Distance, Permutations & Combinations, Simple & Compound Interest, Number System, Simplification, Surds & Indices, Percentages & Partnership etc.

(ii) Reasoning Ability

Syllogisms, Seating Arrangements, Blood Relations, Inequalities and Decision Making, Data Sufficiency, Input-Output, Number Series, Coding – Decoding, Order and Ranking etc.

(iii) English Language

 Grammar (verb, prepositions, adverbs, articles, tenses etc.), Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms, Phrases, Sentence Correction, Reading Comprehension ( theme detection, passage completion, deriving conclusions) etc.

(iv) General Awareness

 Owing to the nature of the exam, questions can be expected from the banking and insurance sector.Other important topics are: General Awareness, Current Affairs, Culture, Geography, Indian Economy, Finance, Books and Authors, Awards and Honours, Sports, Science Inventions and Discoveries, Abbreviations / Full Forms, Important Days / Dates etc.

The NIACL Administrative Officer : Job Profile, Salary and Benefits

Job Profile

An administrative officer at NIACL is on probation for a period of one year. This probation period can be further extended. During the probation period the Officers are required to pass the non-life “Licentiate Examination” conducted by Insurance Institute of India. Only after passing this examination, the Officer’s offer is confirmed.

Also, an Officer is supposed to serve for a period of minimum 4 years known as the bond period. In case, they resign before this period, they are supposed to pay one year’s gross salary as liquidated damages.

An Administrative Officer in an insurance company acts as the Primary Supervisor. An AO is required to perform administrative jobs which include Claim Settlements, Accounting, Verification and Supervising Assistants’ works.
