The SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination is conducted to fill the Group-B and Group-C vacancies. On 23rd December 2021, SSC issued a notification for the CGL examination for recruitment of CBDT Tax Assistant and CBIC Tax Asst. The number of vacancies has not been announced yet. The application process began on 23rd December itself. The last date of application is 23rd January 2022. The Tier I examination is expected to be conducted sometime in April 2022.

SSC CGL CBDT Tax Assistant Responsibilities
The Tax Asst. (CBDT) is deputed to do the assessment work of the income tax of individuals/ partnership firms/companies. The CBDT Tax Assistants are also expected to do clerical work like diary and dispatch, noting, drafting, and other similar duties. Sometimes the Tax Asst. is also sent with the RAID team.
SSC CGL CBDT Tax Assistant Promotions

The first promotion is to the post of Sr. Tax Asst. after a minimum service of 3 years. This promotion is based upon clearing a departmental exam for ministerial staff. For the next promotion, which is to the post of ITI, he has to pass yet another departmental exam.
SSC CGL CBIC Tax Assistant Powers and Responsibilities
Tax Assistant in CBIC can have three types of postings namely
1. Excise
2. Service Tax
3. Customs
The work of a CBIC Tax Assistant is basically clerical. It includes preparing reports and dispatch work. Usually, the TA is an assistant to the Superintendent or Appraiser, but at times he also works under the Examiner, PO, and Excise Inspector. TA puts up the file for any new Registration/Cancellation of license or any other permissions.
