Women's Reservation Bill: All You Need to Know

On September 20, the Lok Sabha overwhelmingly approved a Constitutional amendment Bill, granting one-third reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

According to the Women Reservation Bill, women should be given a one third (33%) of the seats in state legislative assemblies and the Lok Sabha.

In the Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies, a portion of seats designated for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, amounting to one-third, will be reserved for women from these communities.

Seats designated for reservation can be allocated to various constituencies within the state or union territory on a rotational basis.

The reservation of seats for women will come to an end 15 years after the commencement of this Amendment Act.
