Minister of State for Rural Development, Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, inaugurated the SARAS Mela, which features the finest crafts created by rural Self-Help Group (SHG) women, in Gurugram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her speech, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti emphasized that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to empower at least 2 crore financially independent women from the existing 10 crore-strong family of SHG Didis as part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission<\/strong>. This initiative aims to uplift women in rural areas and enhance their economic well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the SARAS Mela<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The SARAS Melas, organized by the Ministry of Rural Development and the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj<\/a> (NIRDPR)<\/strong>, are significant initiatives aimed at providing support for livelihood enhancement and economic opportunities for rural women. These melas serve as platforms for rural Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to showcase and sell their handicrafts and products, contributing to their economic empowerment and financial independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2nd Edition of the SARAS Ajeevika Mela<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The second edition of Saras Ajeevika Mela in Gurugram<\/strong> is a vibrant showcase of over 800 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs)<\/strong> across the country, presenting their exquisite handicrafts, handloom products, and regional culinary delights. This two-week-long cultural festival is being held at the Leisure Valley ground in Sector 29 and will run until November 11. The fair is open to the public daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and there is no entry fee. Visitors can explore around 400 stalls featuring a diverse range of arts and crafts, and workshops will be conducted to enhance the marketing skills of women in self-help groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) is the Indian government’s flagship program for alleviating rural poverty and is currently the world’s largest initiative dedicated to improving the livelihoods of rural communities. This program addresses various aspects of poverty and aims to reach 10 crore rural households living in poverty. It organizes at least one woman member from each rural household into affinity-based women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs). These SHGs provide ongoing, personalized support to their members, helping them access financial services from banks, diversify and stabilize their sources of income, and easily access their entitlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Primary Objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The primary goal of the program is to ensure that every family that has been part of an SHG for 6-8 years achieves food security at the household level and has more than one stable source of livelihood<\/strong>. This initiative has made a significant impact in empowering women and improving the economic and social well-being of rural communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
