He was born into a low-caste family, and he faced prejudice from those of higher castes. This experience led him to become a champion of social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phule was educated at a local school, but he was not allowed to attend college because of his caste. He was determined to get an education, so he taught himself to read and write.
