The Vimana in Dravida Style of Temple Architecture is Pyramidical Elevation of Towers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>2 \u2013 Nagara Style<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 The style is related to the Temples found in North India. The distinctive feature of this style is that the shikhara\/Vimana is curvilinear shaped.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>3 \u2013 Vesara Style<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 The temples build with a Mixture of Dravida and Nagara Styles of Temple Architecture are called as Vesara Style of Temples. These can mainly be seen in Karnataka region.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"691\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/temple-architecture-styles1.png\" alt=\"temple-architecture-styles1\" class=\"wp-image-15692\" title=\"temple-architecture\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/temple-architecture-styles1.png 691w, https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/temple-architecture-styles1-150x55.png 150w, https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/temple-architecture-styles1-300x110.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 691px) 100vw, 691px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><u>Dravida Style of Temple Architecture:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This Style predominantly developed in the 7-8<sup>th<\/sup> century AD under the Pallava\u2019s and Cholas in South India.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Characteristics: <\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Temples are enclosed by a compound wall.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The entrance gateway called as Gopuram is in the centre of the Front wall.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Garbhagriha is square shaped which is topped by a pyramidical Tower called as Vimana.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Shikhara in South India, which is an octagonal cupola, is equivalent to Kalash of North India.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A Temple tank of Fresh water is within the enclosed structure of the Temple.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A pillared wall called a Mandapa, precedes the Garbhagriha and the Vimana.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Pillars and Vimana storeys are decorated by sculpting of images of Dwarpalas (door keepers)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Over the period of time the height of the Goparam\u2019s kept on increasing and in the Vijayanagara period the Goparam\u2019s had almost become bigger than the Vimana\u2019s<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Examples of Temples build in Dravida Style of Temple architecture:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Brihedeshwara Temple at Tanjore built by Rajarajeshwara Chola<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shore Temple ot Mahabalipuram built by Narasimhavarman II (Pallava King)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Meenakshi- Sundareswara temple at Madurai built by Nayaka Rulers<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Kailashnath Temple at Kanchipuram built by Narasimhavarman II (Pallava King)<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/ias\/?ref-blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"727\" height=\"89\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/https_2F2Fblueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws.png\" alt=\"UPSC CSE 2018\" class=\"wp-image-13625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/https_2F2Fblueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws.png 727w, https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/https_2F2Fblueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws-150x18.png 150w, https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/https_2F2Fblueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws-300x37.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 727px) 100vw, 727px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><u>Nagara Style of Temple Architecture:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This Style of Temple Architecture is seen in temples built in North India.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Characteristics:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Temple complex is not enclosed.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Garbhagriha (Inner Sanctum) is topped by a Shikhara which is curvilinear shaped.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Mandapa (main hall) are of different types called as Ardhamandapa, Mandapa and Mahamandapa. Based on their sizes.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is a Stone disc type structure called as amalaka at the top of the Temple.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Amalaka is Topped by a Kalasha which is the highest point of the Shikara as well as the entire temple.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is also an Anatarala, which is transition area between the Garbhagriha and the Mandapa.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The walls and pillars of the temple are decorated by sculpted images of river goddesses and mithuna images.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The entire Temple complex is build on a stone platform with steps leading to it.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure Chandela rulers<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sun Temple at Modhera, Gujrat built by Solanki Rulers<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sun Temple at Konark, built by Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jagannatha temple at Puri, built by Eastern Ganga Dynasty rulers<\/span><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure Architecture:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These style is also called as the Deccan style as most of the temples of this Temple architecture style are found in Deccan region.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Characteristics:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is a hybridized style formed by combining features of both Dravida and Nagara Style of Temple architecture.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This style had Spire shaped Shikhara inspired by Nagara style<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Mandapa is designed in Dravidian style which is a pillared hall<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Shikhara and Mandapa are joined by antarala<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pradakshina path \u2013 ambulatory path way around Sanctum Sanctorum (Garbhagriha) is not present.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Pillars, ceiling and door frames are very intricately carved.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>&nbsp;Examples of Temples build in Vesara Style of Temple architecture<\/strong>:<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lad Khan temple at Aihole, Karnataka, built by the Kings of the Chalukya Dynasty<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Virupaksha temple at Pattadakkal, built by Loka-Mahadevi, the Queen of the Chalukya king Vikramaditya II<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Kailshnatha Temple at Ellora, built by Rahstrakuta rulers<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hoyasaleswara temple at Halebid, by the Hoyasala king Vishnuvardhan.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We hope this
