What was your first reaction when you got the IBPS SO result?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A1.<\/strong> To be honest, it was unbelievable. You don\u2019t expect to secure AIR 1 in an exam as reputed as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/ibps-so\/?ref=conttm-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IBPS SO<\/a><\/strong>, especially considering how tough the exam was and how high the cut-offs went this year. Once it sank in, it felt extremely rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q2-how-did-your-family-react-to-your-achievement\">Q2. How did your family react to your achievement?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A2.<\/strong> They were completely stunned. While they were confident I would clear the exam, AIR 1 was unexpected. I\u2019ve cleared multiple exams earlier, but securing Rank 1 is a different feeling altogether. They were truly on cloud nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q3-can-you-tell-us-about-your-educational-background-and-work-experience\">Q3. Can you tell us about your educational background and work experience?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A3.<\/strong> I\u2019m from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. I completed my MBA in marketing from IIM Indore. After that, I worked in an ad-tech firm in sales and ad operations. Currently, I work as a senior marketing consultant in a crypto- and blockchain-based firm. When I came across the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/ibps-so-marketing-foundation-batch-2026-hinglish-2088\/?ref=conttm-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IBPS SO Marketing<\/a><\/strong> notification, it felt like a role that aligned perfectly with my skills. The opportunity to work in marketing within a public sector bank and gain wide exposure really motivated me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q5-why-did-you-choose-ibps-so-over-the-po-role\">Q5. Why did you choose IBPS SO over the PO role?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A5.<\/strong> I was very clear about what I wanted to do. While I could have opted for the PO role, marketing is something I can do naturally due to my background. Working directly in marketing within a bank was exciting and aligned with my long-term interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q6-do-you-remember-your-scores-in-prelims-mains-and-interview\">Q6. Do you remember your scores in Prelims, Mains, and Interview?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A6.<\/strong> Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prelims:<\/strong> 53 out of 125<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mains:<\/strong> 53.75 out of 60<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interview:<\/strong> 16<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Final Score:<\/strong> <strong>87.47 (Highest score this year)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q7-how-did-you-prepare-for-the-ibps-so-prelims\">Q7. How did you prepare for the IBPS SO Prelims?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A7.<\/strong> Since I come from an MBA background and had cleared CAT earlier, my basics in Quant, Reasoning, and English were strong. I focused on brushing up concepts and taking multiple mock tests. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/test-series\/?ref=conttm-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oliveboard mocks<\/a><\/strong> were my primary choice, and they closely matched the actual exam level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q8-many-aspirants-feel-oliveboard-mocks-are-tougher-than-the-real-exam-what-s-your-opinion\">Q8. Many aspirants feel Oliveboard mocks are tougher than the real exam. What\u2019s your opinion?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A8.<\/strong> They are slightly tougher, but that\u2019s beneficial. Practicing tougher mocks prepares you well for the actual exam. When the real paper feels easier than the mocks, it boosts confidence and reduces exam-day pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q9-how-important-was-mock-analysis-during-your-preparation\">Q9. How important was mock analysis during your preparation?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A9.<\/strong> Mock analysis was crucial. I believe mock tests contribute to nearly <strong>80% of exam preparation<\/strong>. For every mock I took, I spent twice the time analyzing it identifying mistakes, missed opportunities, and new concepts. That\u2019s where real improvement happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q10-what-challenges-did-you-face-while-preparing-for-prelims\"><strong>Q10. What challenges did you face while preparing for prelims?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A10.<\/strong> I hadn\u2019t been in touch with Quant and Reasoning for some time due to work. Quant was particularly challenging, as it required brushing up concepts and building the right attempt strategy. With consistent practice and mocks, I was able to overcome this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/courses\/?ref=conttm-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prepare for bank exam 2026 under expert guidance<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q11-how-did-you-plan-your-preparation-for-the-ibps-so-marketing-mains\"><strong>Q11. How did you plan your preparation for the IBPS SO Marketing Mains?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A11.<\/strong> I started my Mains preparation only after giving Prelims and being confident of clearing them. Since I already had a strong foundation in marketing, learning accounted for only about <strong>20%<\/strong> of my preparation. The remaining <strong>80% was focused on mock tests and strategy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I started giving multiple mocks daily one month before the Mains exam and analyzed what I knew, what I couldn\u2019t attempt despite knowing, and completely new concepts. Oliveboard mocks played a major role in exposing me to diverse question types and competition levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q12-did-your-background-and-work-experience-help-you-in-clearing-the-exam\"><strong>Q12. Did your background and work experience help you in clearing the exam?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A12.<\/strong> It gave me confidence and internal motivation, but I still had to work hard at every stage like any other candidate. While my background helped, consistent effort and proper strategy were essential to clear the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q13-what-advice-would-you-give-to-aspirants-from-non-marketing-backgrounds\"><strong>Q13. What advice would you give to aspirants from non-marketing backgrounds?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A13.<\/strong> Marketing is not rocket science. Once you start observing ads, branding, promotions, and everyday interactions, you\u2019ll realize marketing exists everywhere. Since I\u2019m from IIM Indore and had worked in reputed firms, the panel grilled me heavily to test my seriousness and pressure-handling ability. I was clear about why I wanted to join a public sector bank, and that clarity helped me convince them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q15-were-there-any-specific-interview-questions-you-remember\"><strong>Q15. Were there any specific interview questions you remember?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A15.<\/strong> Yes. They asked why I would choose a public sector bank despite having opportunities in high-paying private roles. They also asked marketing-related questions like customer lifetime value in banking, how to increase it, and how my work experience would be relevant to a bank\u2019s marketing role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q16-what-common-mistakes-should-aspirants-avoid\"><strong>Q16. What common mistakes should aspirants avoid?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A16.<\/strong> First, ignore external noise such as rumors about vacancies and cut-offs. Second, don\u2019t rely only on learning concepts apply them through mocks and strategize for scoring. Stick to limited, reliable resources and focus on performance improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q17-what-daily-habits-helped-you-during-preparation\"><strong>Q17. What daily habits helped you during preparation?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A17.<\/strong> I set boundaries for everything studying, entertainment, and breaks. I also made sure to take time to relax and clear my mind, which helped me stay focused.
