Exams<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FASTag- National Electronic Toll Collection<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How does a FASTag Function?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is <strong>affixed on the windscreen of the vehicle<\/strong> and <strong>enables to drive through toll plazas without stopping for transactions.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How can vehicle owners avail FASTag?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The tag can be purchased from official Tag issuers or participating Banks\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-nhai1_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>and if it is linked to a prepaid account, then recharging or top-up can be as per requirement.<sup id=\"cite_ref-nhai2_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0As per\u00a0NHAI, FASTag has unlimited validity. 7.5% of cashback offers were also provided to promote the use of FASTag. Dedicated Lanes at some Toll plazas have been built for FASTag.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What is an Electronic Toll Collecting System?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ETC is the Electronic payment of highway tolls without human intervention. ETC systems use vehicle-to-roadside communication technologies to perform an electronic monetary transaction between a vehicle and the toll collection agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FASTag Applications<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched two mobile Apps \u2013 <strong>MyFASTag and FASTag Partner<\/strong> to facilitate the availability of FASTags for Electronic Toll Collection.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FASTag History<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In January 2019, state-run oil marketing companies\u00a0IOC,\u00a0BPCL\u00a0and\u00a0HPCL\u00a0have signed MoUs enabling the use of FASTag to make purchases at petrol pumps.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As of September 2019, FASTag lanes are available on over 500\u00a0national\u00a0and\u00a0state highways\u00a0and over 54.6\u00a0lakh\u00a0(5.46 million) cars are enabled with FASTag.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The system was initially set up as a pilot project in\u00a0<b>2014<\/b>\u00a0on the stretch of the\u00a0Golden Quadrilateral\u00a0between\u00a0Ahmedabad\u00a0and\u00a0Mumbai.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The system was implemented on the\u00a0Delhi\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Mumbai\u00a0arm of the Quadrilateral on\u00a0<b>4 November 2014<\/b>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-nonstop_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In\u00a0<b>July 2015<\/b>, toll plazas on the\u00a0Chennai\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Bengaluru\u00a0stretch of the Golden Quadrilateral started accepting FASTag payments.<sup id=\"cite_ref-CHNBLR_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By\u00a0<b>April 2016<\/b>, FASTag was rolled out to 247 toll plazas on\u00a0national highways\u00a0across\u00a0India, representing 70% of all toll plazas in the country at the time.<sup id=\"cite_ref-log1_9-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By\u00a0<b>23 November 2016<\/b>, 347 fee plazas out of 366 on national highways across the country accept FASTag payments.<sup id=\"cite_ref-pib1_10-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On\u00a0<b>1 October 2017<\/b>, the NHAI launched a FASTag lane in all 370 toll plazas under its ambit.<sup id=\"cite_ref-livemint1_11-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On\u00a0<b>8 November 2017<\/b>, it was followed up by making FASTag mandatory on all new vehicles sold in\u00a0India\u00a0after December 2017.<sup id=\"cite_ref-news18_1_12-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On\u00a0<b>19 October 2019<\/b>, it was announced that FASTag will be mandatory on all National Highways and non-FASTag users will be charged double the toll.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/bank-exams\/?ref=hny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Check out our Live Classes and Mock Test Series for Bank &amp; Govt. Exams<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How to buy and activate FASTag?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FASTags are issued by 22 certified banks through various channels such as Point-of-Sale (POS) at National Highway toll plazas and select bank branches. They are also available on the e-commerce platform such as Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here is how vehicle owners can do it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>(i) Self-Activation:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FASTags are &#8216;bank-neutral&#8217;<\/strong>, that is, no bank is pre-assigned to the FASTag at the time you purchase it from a POS terminal or online platform. The online FASTag is based on the concept of DIY (Do-It-Yourself) where you can self-activate it by entering vehicle details in the &#8216;My FASTag&#8217; mobile app. Android smartphone users can download the My FASTag app from &#8216;Google Play Store&#8217; and iPhone users can download the app from &#8216;Apple Store&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thereafter, you have the flexibility to link the FASTag with any one of your existing bank accounts by using the My FASTag Mobile app. The NHAI (National Highways Authority of India)\u00a0Prepaid wallet facility is also available in My FASTag mobile app, where you can load money and get your toll fee deducted from the prepaid wallet instead of getting it directly deducted from a bank account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>(ii) Activate by visiting certified bank branch:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can also buy FASTag by visiting the nearest certified bank branch and get the FASTag linked with your existing bank account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the time of activation, you need to submit the KYC (Know Your Customer) documentation as per the KYC policy of the bank. Apart from the KYC documentation, you need to submit Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle along with the application for FASTag to the bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/bank-exams\/?ref=hny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Check out our Live Classes and Mock Test Series for Bank &amp; Govt. Exams<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Charges for FASTag<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FASTag issued by certified banks can charge a maximum of Rs 100 for each tag, which is fixed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). However, the actual tag issuing charges are defined by the bank and may vary from bank to bank.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">For example,<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A bank is selling FASTag for car at Rs 400 in the following manner:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rs 100 for Tag issuance fees<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rs 200 for Refundable Security Deposit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rs 100 for first recharge amount in the wallet when the wallet is been created<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How to Recharge your FASTag<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If the FASTag is already linked with your bank account, then there is no need to load money separately in a prepaid wallet. You only need to ensure that your FASTag-linked bank account has sufficient balance to allow for toll payments. However, if you have linked the FASTag to a prepaid wallet (NHAI prepaid wallet), then it can be recharged through various channels such as payment through cheque or through UPI\/debit card\/ credit card\/ NEFT\/ Net Banking.\u00a0Also, additional charges will be levied while recharging the FASTag account through different channels.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>For limited KYC FASTag account holder:<\/strong>\u00a0This type of FASTag cannot have more than Rs 20,000 in their FASTag prepaid wallet. The monthly reload limit is also capped at Rs 20,000.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>For full KYC FASTag account holder:\u00a0<\/strong>This type of FASTag account cannot have more than Rs 1 lakh in their FASTag prepaid wallet. There is no monthly reload cap in this account, according to the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) website.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Points to remember:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">You cannot use one FASTag with two or more vehicles, you will have to buy two separate FASTags for the two vehicles and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliveboard.in\/bank-exams\/?ref=hny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Check out our Live Classes and Mock Test Series for Bank &amp; Govt.
