A data sufficiency problem is followed\nby two or more than two statements with some information and a question related\nto that. The question asked can be a numerical value or it can be a\nrelationship.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a\nquestion has followed two statements I and II, then at first check if each\nstatement I or II alone is sufficient to find the answer. If not, then see if\nthe answer is determined by taking the information given in both the statements\ntogether. For two statements DS, the options can be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Statement I\nalone is sufficient to find the answer, but statement II alone is not\nsufficient.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Statement\nII alone is sufficient to find the answer, but the statement I alone is not\nsufficient.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Either\nstatement I or II alone is sufficient to find the answer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Both\nstatements I and II together are sufficient to find the answer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Both\nstatements I and II together are not sufficient to find the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If more than\ntwo statements are given in the question, then the step for checking the\nsufficiency of statements is the same. At first, check whether any\/each statement\nalone is sufficient to find the answer. If not, then check for the combination\nof any two or more statements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most\nimportant thing to remember while solving data sufficiency questions is to\ncheck if only one exact numerical value or relationship is obtained either from\nany statement alone or taking two or more statements together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tips and tricks to solve DS for PO mains&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first\nstep to prepare for DS questions is to clear your basics (regarding facts,\nformulas, etc.) along with good observation skills. With this, you can solve a\nDS question in reasoning as well as in the quant easily. Sometimes, you need to\ndo some calculations to solve the question. So, increase your calculation speed\nas well. You should follow some proper steps while solving DS questions to save\nproblem-solving time and determine the accurate answer. These steps are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Focus on\nwhat is asking in the question and what is the type of the question. Whether a\nnumerical value, a range or a relationship between any two quantities is\nasking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Examine\nwhat information is given in each statement or what information you need to\nsolve the question.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Examine\nwhether any\/each statement is sufficient alone to find the answer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; If the answer is not obtained by taking any of the given statements alone, then combine the data given in two or more statements together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Example for DS questions&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us first\ntake an example of two statements DS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example: Who\nis the shortest person among P, Q, R, S, and T.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Statement I:\nP is taller than only two persons, and none of them is T. S who is shorter than\nT is taller than R.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Statement II:\nQ is taller than T who is taller than S. P is not the shortest person.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solution:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From\nstatement I:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P is taller\nthan only two persons and none of them is T. Then, two cases are\nobtained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case 1: T\n&gt; _ &gt; P &gt; _ &gt; _ (T is tallest)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case 2: _\n&gt; T &gt; P &gt; _ &gt; _ (T is taller than P but not tallest)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S who is\nshorter than T is taller than R. Here, three cases are formed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case 1a: T\n&gt; S &gt; P &gt; R\/Q &gt; Q\/R<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case 2a: T\n&gt; Q &gt; P &gt; S &gt; R<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case 2: Q\n&gt; T &gt; P &gt; S &gt; R<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, from the\nstatement I alone we cannot determine who is the shortest among Q and R.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From\nstatement II:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Q is taller\nthan T who is taller than S. Then,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Q &gt; T &gt;\nS&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P is not the\nshortest person. So, the shortest person is either S or R.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore,\nfrom statement II alone we cannot determine who is the shortest among S and\nR.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, we will\ncombine the information given in both statements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From\nstatements I and II together:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Q is\ntaller than T, so case 1a and case 1b are eliminated.
