But did you know that there is more than one type of passport? Yes, you read it correctly; in this post, we will discuss the different types of passports in India.

Different Types of Passport in India

A passport is a travel document provided by the country’s government to its citizens that certifies the holder’s identity, address & nationality, and purpose for international travel. Passports are little booklets usually containing the holder’s name, birthplace, passport issue date, passport expiration date, passport number, passport holders’ photo, & signature.

A passport is usually valid for ten years and can be used in any country in the world. Apart from granting entrance to another country and providing identification, the passport proves that a person has entered the country legally. A passport serves as proof of citizenship because a country issues it.

Types of Passport in India

There are various types of passports, some of which have visa-free travel and others that allow for quicker immigration processing. The following is a list of the various types of passports in India and their relevance.

The Blue Passport

Blue passports are commonly provided to the general public, and the colour is chosen for simple identification among other passports having official status. The majority of passengers use this type of passport. These are issued to citizens by a country. The passport is navy blue in colour and is granted for routine travel such as business trips or vacations. It’s a common person’s passport.

The white Passport

Individuals who represent the Indian government are granted white passports. White passport owners have additional advantages over other passport kinds, as they are considered the most powerful ones. The application process for a white passport differs slightly from the usual blue passport application process.

This passport is issued to people who travel abroad for official purposes. The white passport allows customs and immigration personnel to quickly recognize the holder as a government official and provide appropriate treatment.

The Maroon Passport

Indian diplomats, senior government officials like IPS, IAS, etc., are issued the Maroon Passport, also known as a diplomatic passport. Compared to general applicants, applications for maroon passports are given special consideration, and immigration is easy and quick.

To obtain a maroon passport, you must submit a separate application. During foreign trips, maroon passport holders are eligible for a variety of perks. Furthermore, they do not require a visa to fly internationally.

The Orange passport

The Indian government has announced that the bulk of the population will be issued an orange passport. It’s used to describe someone who hasn’t studied past the 10th grade. When these passport holders want to go overseas, they will be placed in the ECR (Immigration Check Required) category. This means that if a person in this category travelling overseas must meet the immigration officers’ requirements.

Prepare for Govt Exams with Free Mock Test

Types of Passport in India – Conclusion

So, these are the several types of passports that are commonly available in India.
