    The global education development agenda reflected in the Goal 4 (SDG4) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by India in 2015 – seeks to \u201censure inclusive and equitable qualityeducation and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all\u201d by 2030. Such a lofty goal will require the entire education system to be reconfigured to support and foster learning, so that all of the
    critical targets and goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development can be achieved.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    The highest priority of the education system will be to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy in primary school by 2025. New Policy aims for Universalization of Education from pre\u0002school to secondary level with 100 % GER in school education by 2030 and to bring 2 crore out-of\u0002schoolchildren back into the mainstream.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Summary of National Education Policy 2020<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Key changes formulated by NEP 2020 are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    \u2022 Quality Early Childhood Care Education
    \u2022 New Curricular and Pedagogical Structure: the 10+2 structure of school curriculum to be replaced by a 5+3+3+4 curricular structure corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14- 18 years respectively.
    \u2022 Holistic Multidisciplinary Education at undergraduate level
    \u2022 Academic Bank of Credit (ABC be established to digitally store the academic credits earned from various recognized Higher Education Institutes (HEIs)<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Curtailing dropout rates and ensuring universal access to education at all levels<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Two overall initiatives that will be undertaken to bring children who have dropped out back to school and to prevent further children from dropping ou
    \u2022 Provide effective and sufficient infrastructure so that all students have access to safe and engaging school education at all levels from pre-primary school to Grade 12.
    \u2022 Carefully tracking students, as well as their learning levels, in order to ensure that they:
    a) are enrolled in and attending school, and
    b) have suitable opportunities to catch up and re-enter school in case they have fallen behind or dropped out<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    New Pedagogy and Curriculum for School Education<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Universalisation of Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) will be implemented. The existing educational structure of 10 + 2 years has been redesigned to 3+2+3+3+4 years, which will be as follows:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Foundational Stage (5 years):<\/strong>

    \u2022 3 years at an Anganwadi\/Bal Vatika\/Ashramshalas\/preschool\/playschool for children in the age group of 3 to 6 years with multi-level play and activity-based learning
    \u2022 2 years in class 1 and 2 for children in the age group of 6 to 8 with multi-level play and activity-based learning<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Preparatory Stage (3 years)<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    \u2022 For classes 3 through 5 for children in the age group of 8 to 11 year
    \u2022 Activity-based and interactive classroom learning
    Middle Stage (3 years)
    \u2022 For classes 6 through 8 for children in the age group of 11 to 14 years
    \u2022 Experiential learning in science, mathematics, social sciences, arts, and humanities<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Secondary Stage (4 years)<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    \u2022 For classes 9 through 12 for children in the age group 14 to 18 years
    \u2022 Multidisciplinary study, student\u2019s choice of subjects, critical thinking
    \u2022 Students can exit after Grade 10 and re-enter in the next phase to pursue vocational or any other courses available in Grades 11- 12, including at a more specialized school, if so desired<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Languages<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    \u2022 The following are the key points of the language policy in school education:
    \u2022 No language will be imposed on any state. Upto class 5 and preferably till class 8, the mother tongue will the medium of instruction as far as possible in both private and public schools
    \u2022 There will be a 3-language system with languages chosen by the states, regions, and students. 2 languages should be native languages of India
    \u2022 Sanskrit will be offered at all levels of school and higher education
    \u2022 Other classical languages will be made available, mostly as online modules
    \u2022 Foreign languages will be offered from the secondary level onwards
    \u2022 States may enter into bilateral agreements to hire teachers from each other, to satisfy the three-language formula in their respective states
    \u2022 Every student in the country will participate in the \u2018Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat\u2019 initiative.
    \u2022 Indian Sign Language (ISL) will be standardized across the country<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
