Thus, the verb should agree with &#8216;chocolates&#8217; and not &#8216;children&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">3. Nouns such as shoes, trousers, scissors, binoculars, spectacles etc. are followed by a plural verb, BUT if they sentence, begins with the phrase, &#8220;A pair of&#8221;, a singular verb follows.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><em>Example:-<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My <strong>shoes <em>are<\/em><\/strong> hurting my feet.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>A pair of leather shoes <em>is<\/em><\/strong> quite costly.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>8. If a collective noun is used in the sentence, and it is spoken of as a single\/ united entity, a singular verb follows.
