It was drafted by representatives from different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world.&nbsp; The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 (General Assembly resolution 217 A) with 48 members voting in favour, 0 against, 8 abstaining and 2 not voting. It has been translated into 500 languages. For the first time, it set out the fundamental human rights to be universally protected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Universal Declaration of Human Rights \u2013 Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The 30 rights and freedoms set out in the UDHR include the right to\u00a0<strong>asylum<\/strong>, the right to\u00a0<strong>freedom from torture<\/strong>, the right to\u00a0<strong>free speech<\/strong>\u00a0and the right to\u00a0<strong>education<\/strong>. It includes civil and political rights, like the right to\u00a0<strong>life<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>liberty<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>free speech,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>privacy<\/strong>.
