XAT 2022 Analysis: XAT 2022 was conducted on 2nd January 2022 across 73 test centres across India by XLRI on behalf of XAMI. The XAT 2022 was taken by around 75000 students and the XAT Answer key is expected to be released by 8th January on the XAT official website @xatonline.in
XAT 2022 exam commenced at 9:30 am and concluded at 12:40 pm. The overall difficulty level of XAT 2022 was easy to moderate similar to the XAT 2021 paper. There were a total of 101 questions in the paper.

Important Highlights of XAT 2022
- XAT 2022 was conducted in one slot ( 9:30 am – 12:40 pm) across 73 centres in India.
- There were a total of 101 questions, 100 MCQs and 1 essay writing.
- The essay section was re-introduced in XAT 2022, it was discontinued since 2018.
- The exam time was increased by 10 minutes, earlier it was 180 minutes, XAT 2022 was of 190 minutes.
- +1 mark for a correct answer.
- – 0.25 marks for incorrect answer.
- – 0.10 marks for more than 8 consecutive unattempted questions.
- GK section had no negative marking.

XAT 2022 Section Wise Analysis
Here is a section-wise analysis of the XAT 2022 Paper that was conducted on 2nd January 2022.
Verbal and Logical Ability Section – 26 Questions
The verbal and logical ability section of XAT is one of the scoring sections and consists of 26 questions. XAT 2022 VALR section was similar to XAT 2021, the only difference being the distribution of questions. In XAT 2022, 14 questions were from Reading comprehension while the remaining 12 were from Verbal ability/Reasoning.
The reading comprehension consisted of 4 passages and 1 poem based RC for a total of 14 questions. The verbal ability questions consisted of sentence correction, cloze test, fill in the blanks, para jumbles and the reasoning section of questions on critical reasoning.
Decision Making – 21 Questions
Decision making section makes XAT unique among all other MBA entrance exams in India. XAT 2022 decision making section comprised of 21 questions arranged in 7 sets of 3 questions each. The questions were mostly based on ethical dilemma, where more than one option sometimes seemed correct and sometimes no answer seemed correct.
Some of the questions were from running a dosa stall in front of a hospital, payment of school fees by parents during the pandemic etc. The overall difficulty level of the decision making section was moderate.
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation – 28 questions
The quantitative ability and data interpretation section has the highest number of questions in XAT 2022. This section contains 28 questions and in XAT 2022, 16 questions were from Quantitative ability and the remaining 12 from Data Interpretation. The Quantitative ability section is comprised of questions from topics such as algebra, arithmetic, number system, clock problems, modern maths etc.
The data interpretation section consisted of 4 sets of 3 questions each. The 4 sets were bar graph, candlestick, line graph and table ( logical reasoning)
General Knowledge – 25 questions
The General knowledge sections comprised 25 questions and no negative marking was there for the GK section. The questions were mostly based on current affairs (national and international) and static GK.
The distribution of questions was almost equal between current affairs (13 questions) and static GK ( 12 questions). Some of the questions were like players who have won Ballon d’Or, books and authors etc.
Essay Writing
The essay writing section consisted of two given topics on which the candidates needed to choose any one topic and write an essay of around 250 words. The topics provided were: Capitalism and Democracy cannot co-exist and In management, we do not need people who have never experienced setbacks.
