XAT Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning: Analysis Of Previous Years’ Papers

The last major MBA exam of the season is almost here, and in this post, we bring to you an analysis of the previous years’ papers so that you get a better idea of what to expect on the ‘D’-day.

The question types falling under the category “Vocabulary + Grammar” are: Fill In the blanks, Sentence Correction, Identification of Parts of Speech, Analogies, Pronunciations, Synonyms, and Antonyms.

As one can observe from the above graph, the weightage of the RC questions has increased.

Since last year XAT has changed the question pattern so as to induce a higher number of attempts. Hence, one should try to score the maximum in non-RC type questions. Also, no guesswork should be for RCs as the passages are difficult to understand and may take up a lot of your time.

Please note:-

  1. In XAT, there is no clear line of demarcation between Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning Questions. Typical Critical Reasoning questions such as Logical Conclusion/Finding the argument/Strengthening the argument can also be asked as questions following an RC passage.
  2. Most of the FILL IN THE BLANKS Questions are Vocabulary Based.
  3. A good reading speed with clear concepts in Critical Reasoning will easily take you beyond the cut-offs.
