About SSC CGL 2020
Established in 1975, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the CGL, i.e. the Combined Graduate Level Exam every year to recruit staff for various posts in ministries, departments and organizations of the Government of India. The various posts for which the CGLE is conducted, fall under the Group 'B' and Group 'C'.
With and the average of 2 - 3 million registrations a year, SSC CGL is one of the biggest and the most sought-after exams in India. SSC CGL is one of the best ways to land a central government job and build a rewarding career in public service. The jobs offered can be broadly classified into two categories :
- Desk jobs: Appointed as Upper Division Clerks, Assistants, Auditors, Tax-Assistants, etc.
- Field jobs: Appointed as Inspectors (preventive officers, examiners, excise and income tax), CBI and narcotics officers, etc.
SSC CGL 2020 Exam Pattern
As mentioned earlier, in accordance with a government directive, the interview component has been done away with. The examination is conducted in four tiers as described below.
SSC CGL Tier- 1 2020 Prelims Exam
It is a computer based (online) examination for a total of 200 marks. The total time for the tier-I exam is 1 hour or 60 minutes. Negative marks (-0.5) are awarded for each wrong answer. There is no penalty for unattempted questions.

In Tier-II, there is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in paper II (English Language & Comprehension) of Tier-II and 0.50 for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper III and Paper IV of Tier II.
Papers I & II are compulsory for all those who qualify the Tier-I examination. Papers III & IV are only for the candidates who have applied for special posts.
This is treated as a qualifying paper only.
SSC CGL Tier 3 2020 Exam
In addition to above, the Commission has also inducted a Descriptive Paper of English/Hindi as Tier-III. The paper is conducted in pen-paper mode and candidates would be required to write essays/ applications/ letter/ precis etc.
The total marks are 100 and the total time allotted to this section is 60 minutes.
SSC CGL Tier 4 2020 Exam
The SSC CGL exam is conducted for various types of profiles, hence, in this stage post specific test/verification is done. It could be either of the following:-
- Computer Proficiency Test
- Skill Test (wherever applicable)
- Document Verification
SSC CGL 2020 Notification
The SSC CGL 2019 official notification has been released on 22 October 2019. The registration process has started and will last till 25 Nov 2019. The interested candidates are required to fill in the application forms on the official website of the Staff. The Tier 1 exam will be conducted in March 2020

The examination consists of 4 stages: Tier-I, Tier-II, Tier-III & Tier-IV. Earlier interviews were also conducted, but following a government order, interviews have been dispensed off for all non-gazetted posts in the central government. A computer proficiency test or a skill test will also be held for some posts.

The eligibility criteria for the SSC CGL exam (as per the latest notification) is given below.
Age Criteria
- Minimum: 18 years
- Maximum: 32 years
(The Minimum and Maximum Age limit given above is overall limit. The actual Upper and lower age limit would vary for different posts, which have been given in the below table)

Educational Qualifications
- For All Posts (except the following) – Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University.
- Compiler – You should have completed your graduation in Economics/Statistics/Mathematics as a compulsory or Elective subject.
- Statistical Investigator Grade – II – You should have Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognised University
- with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level
- OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

The Actual number of SSC CGL 2019-20 vacancies have not been announced by the staff selection commission yet. SSC usually declares the actual post-wise vacancy numbers once the examination process has started.

Prerequisites for Applying Online
Before applying online, candidates should,
- scan their photograph and signature ensuring that both the photograph (4.5cm × 3.5cm) and signature adhere to the required specifications as given in Annexure III to this Advertisement.
- Signature in CAPITAL LETTERS will NOT be accepted.

Application Fees/ Intimation Charges
The application fee for SSC CGL exam 2019 is Rs. 100. All women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying application fee.
Steps to Apply for SSC CGL Exam Online
- Online submission of the application must be done on the official website: www.ssc.nic.in. Instructions are available on the website.
- Once the application form is duly filled, a page will be generated that shows the Registration number. Either take a print out of that page or write it down somewhere for future reference.
- All details must be filled very carefully as any requests to change/modify data are not entertained whatsoever.
- The fee can be paid online or through cash (challan).
SSC CGL Admit Card
The SSC CGL 2019 Admit Card for Tier 1 Exam would be released Region-wise. The Download link would be activated by SSC a couple of weeks before the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam is conducted. Similar process would be followed for the release of SSC CGL 2019 Tier 2 Admit Card.
