Coast Guard GD Navik Exam Pattern- Exam Pattern, Passing Marks

The Indian Coast Guard annually conducts the Navik (General Duty) Recruitment examination. The official notification for the recruitment was released on 16th December 2022. In all, there are 260 vacancies. The application process will start on 4th January 2022 and continue till 14th January 2022. Eligible Candidates can apply for this recruitment through the Board’s official website. The written examination has two sections.

Section I

Coast Guard Navik GD Exam pattern for Section II

The Coast Guard Navik GD recruitment examination is an objective type multiple choice question test. 

• The Section I paper consists of 60 questions, and each question carries 1 mark.
• Section II has 50 questions, each carrying 1 mark.
• Time duration For Section I is 45 minutes.
• The time duration for Section II is 30 minutes.
• No negative marking is done.

Minimum Passing Marks:

 The category-wise minimum passing marks for the Coast Guard Navik GD Examination are as under:

For Section I

• UR (Unreserved): 30 marks
• EWS (Economically Weaker Sections): 30 marks
• OBC (Other Backward Classes): 30 marks
• SC (Scheduled Castes): 27 marks
• ST (Scheduled Tribes): 27 marks

For Section II

• UR (Unreserved): 20 marks
• EWS (Economically Weaker Sections): 20 marks
• OBC (Other Backward Classes): 20 marks
• SC (Scheduled Castes): 17 marks
• ST (Scheduled Tribes): 17 marks

Indian Coast Guard Navik (General Duty) Recruitment stages:

• Stage 1: the first stage is the written examination. It is an MCQ test. Section I has 6 subjects containing 60 questions, and the Section II of the written examination has 2 subjects with 50 questions. 
• Stage 2: Candidates qualifying for stage 1 are called for the Physical Fitness Test. The Physical Fitness Test includes:
  • Running – 1 kilometre,
  • Squat ups- 20 (utthak-baithak), and 
  • push-ups- 10 

(All the three tasks are to be done in continuation). 

• Stage 3: After stages 1 and 2, an all-India level merit list will be released, and the shortlisted candidates are called for Stage 3. Stage 3 has the following procedure:
  • Document Verification
  • Final medicals at INS Chilka
  • Submission of Original Documents
  • Police Verification
• Stage 4: In the final stage, the candidates qualifying stage 3 are provisionally shortlisted for training at INS Chilka.

Physical Fitness Test

Candidates clearing the written examination will undergo a Physical Fitness Test (PFT). The PFT will take about 2 days. 

Physically Challenged candidates are not eligible to apply for this examination. The parameters for the Physical fitness test are given below:

• 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes
• 20 Squat ups (Uthak Baithak)
• 10 Push-ups

Note: The candidates must carry their sports attire, shoes, etc.

Medical Examination

After clearing the written examination and the Physical Fitness Test, the candidates will have to undergo a medical examination. Medical examination will be conducted by the Military Doctors as per the medical standards prescribed in current regulations applicable to Enrolled Personnel on entry. Given below is the Medical Criteria for Indian Coast Guard Navik General Duty:

Medical Criteria 

Height	The minimum height should be 157 cm.
Chest	Well-proportioned chestThe minimum expansion of the chest should be 5 cms
Weight	Proportionate to height and age 10 percentage acceptable
Hearing	Normal
Visual Standard	6/6 (Better Eye) and 6/9 (Worse Eye) (Candidates using glasses are not eligible)
Tattoo	Permanent tattoos are not allowed
