Key Points of PM’s address –

During the ASEAN-India Summit, the Prime Minister had in-depth talks with ASEAN partners about enhancing the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and planning its future direction. The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of ASEAN’s central role in the Indo-Pacific and pointed out the similarities between India’s Indo-Pacific Ocean’s Initiative (IPOI) and ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). He also stressed the urgency of completing the review of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (AITIGA) within a specified timeframe.

ASEAN serves as the cornerstone of India’s Act East Policy.
India wholeheartedly backs ASEAN’s central role and its perspective on the Indo-Pacific.
ASEAN occupies a significant position in India’s Indo-Pacific endeavor.
Advancing the free and open Indo-Pacific and amplifying the voice of the Global South is a shared goal of all parties involved.
The Prime Minister emphasized the alignment of visions for the Indo-Pacific between India and ASEAN, emphasizing that ASEAN plays a central role in the Quad’s vision.

Additionally, the Prime Minister put forward a 12-point plan to enhance India-ASEAN collaboration. This plan encompasses aspects such as connectivity, digital advancement, trade, and economic involvement, tackling current issues, fostering people-to-people interactions, and deepening strategic ties.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization consisting of ten Southeast Asian countries.
The ten member countries of ASEAN are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
