Govt Launches IndiaSkills 2023-24 and Felicitates World Skills 2022 Winners

India Skills 2023-24 Competition

Today, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated IndiaSkills 2023-24 and honored the winners of World Skills 2022 at an event held in Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi. India has achieved an impressive 11th position in this global competition, marking its best-ever ranking. The event featured a short video illustrating the journey of World Skills 2022, and some of the winners had the opportunity to share their experiences in the competition.

Significance of IndiaSkills

During his address at the event, Shri Pradhan emphasized the significance of enhancing competency, emphasizing that acquiring degrees alone is insufficient. He underscored the importance of incorporating employable skills into education, which would boost the employability of the workforce in the job market.

He called upon policymakers, the academic community and the industry to collaborate, turning it into a Janandolan (people’s movement) with the aim of realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi‘s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. Shri Pradhan underscored the connection between learning and earning, highlighting how the integration of these elements fosters skill development.

About World Skills Competition

The WorldSkills Competition stands as the most extensive skill competition globally, taking place biennially. Organized by WorldSkills International, which boasts 86 member countries, these competitions serve as a benchmark for high performance and offer an objective means to evaluate vocational excellence. The competition spans a duration of four days, with participants dedicating 16 to 22 hours of their skills and expertise.

About WorldSkills 2022 Competition

The WorldSkills Competition in 2022 was an extensive event that took place from September to November, spanning across Europe, North America, and East Asia. It featured over 1,000 competitors from 58 countries, competing in 61 different skills. The competition was hosted by 15 countries in more than 20 cities.

India participated in 50 skills and achieved an impressive 11th position. The Indian team secured 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals, and 13 Medallions for Excellence at the WSC 2022, marking India’s best ranking thus far in the history of the WorldSkills Competition. The Indian competitors who represented the country in the WorldSkills Competition 2022 were selected through the IndiaSkills Competition held in 2021.

Indian Participants

The WorldSkills Competition involved 56 competitors, 50 Experts, and 11 Interpreters. It’s worth noting that 19% of the participants were female, which included 11 female competitors. Additionally, some of the competitors engaged in cutting-edge skills like Robot System Integration, Additive Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, Digital Construction, Mobile Application Development, and Renewable Energy.
