Jyotiraditya Scindia to Inaugurate New Infrastructure at Tezu Airport

On the 24th of September 2023, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, will join Shri Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, in inaugurating the newly developed infrastructure at Tezu Airport. This marks an important event for the region’s aviation and transportation infrastructure.

More About the Tezu Airport

Tezu Airport is a domestic airport situated in the town of Tezu. It operates with a single runway and occupies an area of 212 acres of land. The airport is equipped to handle operations for aircraft of the ATR 72 type.

The development and upgrade of Tezu Airport were carried out by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in response to a request from the State Government. The project, which had a budget of Rs. 170 crore, involved several key elements:

  • Extension of the runway to dimensions of 1500 meters by 30 meters.
  • Construction of a new apron designed to accommodate two ATR 72-type aircraft.
  • Development of a modern terminal building.
  • Establishment of a fire station that also serves as an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower.

These improvements enhance the airport’s capacity and facilities, making it more accessible and efficient for travelers and the region’s aviation needs.

Tezu Airport became operational in 2018 as part of the RCS UDAN (Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) program initiated by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This program aims to enhance air connectivity to remote and underserved regions in India.

Presently, Tezu Airport is linked to several important destinations through regular scheduled flights. Alliance Air and Flybig Airline provide connectivity to Dibrugarh, Imphal, and Guwahati. This development has significantly improved accessibility to and from the Tezu region, fostering economic and social connections with these key cities.
