Women Entrepreneurs Platform in Goa

Women Entrepreneurs Platform: On October 3, 2023, the inaugural session of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) – NITI Aayog State Workshop Series on Enabling Women-led Development through Entrepreneurship was held at the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) Auditorium in Goa. This workshop was organized in collaboration with the Government of Goa, with a particular focus on the western region of India.

Diverse Participation with Over 500 Attendees:

This workshop attracted a diverse gathering of more than 500 participants. Among them were women entrepreneurs, local self-help groups (SHGs) and clusters, government officials, industry representatives, incubators/accelerators, financial institutions, philanthropic foundations, and more. The central theme of the workshop revolved around discussions on a hub-and-spoke model, aiming to extend women-led development to grassroots levels and bridge the last-mile gap. Eminent dignitaries, including Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. V. K. Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, and Shri B.V.R Subramanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, graced this noteworthy event.

Empowering Women through the Women Entrepreneurs Platform Goa:

Dr. Pramod Sawant, Honorable Chief Minister of the Government of Goa, shared insights into the Goa State Vision 2047 and highlighted the collaboration with NITI Aayog. He celebrated the three-year milestone of the Swayampurna Goa initiative, emphasizing its emphasis on skill development and the deployment of “Swayampurna Grameen Mitras” for doorstep delivery of government services in every block and Panchayat. Dr. Sawant reiterated the critical role of women in socio-economic progress, announcing the forthcoming Swayampurna e-bazaar during Dussehra, aimed at expanding market access through Common Service Centres.

NITI Aayog’s Vision for Cooperative Federalism:

Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, underscored the pivotal role of states in driving the nation’s growth. He highlighted three key priorities: maintaining the employment-to-education ratio, promoting women’s entrepreneurship, and restructuring the workforce.

Supporting Women-Led Development:

B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, reaffirmed the central government’s unwavering commitment to women-led development as a top priority. He emphasized NITI Aayog’s role in assisting state governments in establishing similar institutions within their regions, serving as a central hub for strategic planning and development.

New Collaborations to Boost Women Entrepreneurs:

The workshop also witnessed the announcement of several collaborations aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs. Key highlights included the partnership between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and NITI Aayog, the launch of “Udyam Uplift” – an initiative by CAxpert to strengthen compliance among women-led businesses, and the launch of the first two cohorts under WEP’s “Award to Reward” (ATR) initiative. The first ATR cohort, named “WEP-Unnati,” led by WEP Partners Microsave Consulting and SIDBI, is currently accepting applications from green entrepreneurs across India. The second cohort, “WeNurture,” will be led by Atal Incubation Centre – Goa Institute of Management. These initiatives signify significant strides in fostering entrepreneurship among women and driving women-led development in India.
