SAMPRITI 11 – India Bangladesh Army Exercise
On October 3, 2023, India and Bangladesh inaugurated the 11th edition of their annual joint military exercise, SAMPRITI, in Umroi, Meghalaya. This exercise, organized alternately by both nations, underscores their robust bilateral defense cooperation efforts. SAMPRITI, which began in Jorhat, Assam, in 2009, has seen ten successful editions prior to the 2022 exercise.
About Ex SAMPRITI-XI
SAMPRITI-XI, which spans 14 days, will involve approximately 350 personnel from both India and Bangladesh. This exercise emphasizes the significance of improving interoperability between the two armies, sharing tactical maneuvers, and promoting the adoption of best practices.
SAMPRITI-XI holds the promise of further strengthening defense cooperation between India and Bangladesh. It will contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations, cultural understanding, and mutual benefits through shared experiences in Sub-Conventional Operations.
Participation
The Bangladesh contingent, led by Brigadier General Mohammed Mafizul Islam Rashed, Commander of the 52nd Bangladesh Infantry Brigade, consists of 170 personnel. The primary unit representing the Bangladesh Army is the 27th Bangladesh Infantry Regiment. The Indian contingent mainly includes troops from a battalion of the RAJPUT Regiment, with Brigadier SK Anand, Commander of a Mountain Brigade, leading the way. The exercise will also see participation from personnel belonging to various units, including artillery, engineers, and other supporting arms and services from both sides.
Focused on Sub-Conventional Operations in accordance with Chapter VII of the UN mandate, SAMPRITI-XI will encompass a Command Post Exercise (CPX) and a Field Training Exercise (FTX), culminating in a Validation Exercise.
In the Command Post Exercise (CPX), 20 officers from each contingent will engage in decision-making exercises following thorough deliberations. Subsequently, the Field Training Exercise (FTX) will validate grassroots-level operations. The FTX will encompass a series of joint tactical drills for counter-terrorist operations, including hostage rescue, crowd control measures, and the utilization of helicopters in counter-terrorist scenarios. The Validation Exercise is scheduled for October 14th and 15th, 2023, at the Darranga Field Firing Range in Assam. Throughout the exercise, participants will have the opportunity to witness the capabilities showcased in the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ Equipment Display.
