SSC CGL Age Reckoning Issue
SSC has released the notification for SSC CGL 2025. The notification includes details like exam dates, application form, and eligibility criteria. Many students have raised concerns about one important eligibility rule – age limit. This article will explain the age reckoning issue in SSC CGL 2025 and help you understand how it may affect your eligibility.
What is the SSC CGL 2025 Age Reckoning Issue?
As per the SSC CGL notification, SSC has stated that the age limit for SSC CGL 2025 will be calculated as on 1st August 2025. In earlier years, SSC often used 1st January of the exam year as the age cut-off. This change has caused concern among many candidates, as some who were eligible by January 1st are now missing the age criteria by a few months. For aspirants treating SSC CGL 2025 as their final attempt, this change has affected their eligibility and reduced their chances of appearing in the exam.
Post Category | Age Limit | Date of Birth Range (Eligible Candidates) |
Most Posts (e.g., Assistant, Auditor) | 18 – 27 years | 2 Aug 1998 to 1 Aug 2007 |
Inspector (Preventive Officer, Examiner) | Up to 30 years | 2 Aug 1995 to 1 Aug 2007 |
Assistant Section Officer (MEA) | Up to 30 years | 2 Aug 1995 to 1 Aug 2007 |
Assistant Enforcement Officer (DRI) | Up to 30 years | 2 Aug 1995 to 1 Aug 2007 |
Sub-Inspector (CBI, NIA) | Up to 30 years | 2 Aug 1995 to 1 Aug 2007 |
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) | Up to 32 years | 2 Aug 1993 to 1 Aug 2007 |
How Does SSC Decide Age Limit?
As per the DoPT Office Memorandum (1988), the age limit cut-off should fall in the same half of the year in which the Tier 2 (Mains) exam is held. Since SSC CGL 2025 Tier 2 is expected in October–November, the age should be calculated as on 1st July or 1st August 2025. In the past, SSC has used 1st January even for exams held in the second half, which caused confusion. This year, 1st August 2025 is being followed, but many are still requesting a review of this decision.
How to Contest the Age Limit?
If you believe the age limit criteria for SSC CGL 2025 is unfair or has affected your eligibility, you can raise your concern by writing to the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). Candidates are advised to come together and submit polite, well-drafted requests.Below are the official contact details of DoPT:
- Clearly mention how the age reckoning date (1st August 2025) has impacted your eligibility.
- Add personalized details and supporting documents (such as ID proof or previous admit cards).
- Stay respectful and focused on facts in your communication.
