General elections were held in India from April 19 to June 1, 2024, across seven phases, to elect all 543 members of the Lok Sabha. The votes are being counted and results are being declared on June 4, 2024.

Out of India’s population of 1.4 billion, more than 968 million people were eligible to vote, making up 70% of the total population. A record 642 million voters participated in the election, including 312 million women, marking the highest-ever participation by women voters.

Who won the General Elections in 2024?

To win a majority in the Lok Sabha elections, a party or coalition must secure at least 272 seats out of the total 543 seats. This majority enables them to form the government and select the Prime Minister.

In the 2024 Elections, no single party got the majority of 272 seats. BJP emerged as the single largest party with the maximum number of seats winning 240. The BJP-led coalition, called NDA (National Democratic Alliance) has emerged as the largest coalition comprising 292 seats. The current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will remain in office for the 3rd consecutive term.
