General Elections 2024 Complete Schedule
The 17th Lok Sabha’s term ends on June 16, 2024. According to Article 324 of the Indian Constitution, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has the authority over election-related matters. Article 83(2) of the Constitution and Section 14 of the Representation of the People Act-1951 outline the process for conducting elections for the new Lok Sabha before the current term ends. In line with these laws, the ECI has prepared extensively to ensure that the 18th Lok Sabha elections are conducted fairly, inclusively, and transparently.
Conducting elections in the world’s largest democracy involves managing logistics and resources efficiently. The ECI collaborates with stakeholders, gathers input from relevant departments, and establishes a coordinated framework. Planning for the 543 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) includes scheduling, phasing, and addressing various dimensions. The ECI meticulously plans every aspect well in advance to ensure free, fair, participative, accessible, peaceful, and inclusive elections.

It covers various aspects such as speeches, meetings, processions, election manifestos, polling, and general conduct, ensuring the fairness of the electoral process.
Effective immediately upon the announcement of the election schedule, the MCC applies to all states/union territories (UTs), candidates, political parties, and the respective state governments. Additionally, it extends to the Union Government, ensuring uniformity and integrity across the electoral landscape.
Campaigns Launched by Election Commission of India
- The ECI is actively tackling urban and youth disinterest in elections. With a voting percentage of 67.4% in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, the Commission aims to enhance participation, aligning with its mission “No Voter to be Left Behind.”
- Under the theme “Chunav ka Parv, Desh ka Garv” (Elections: The Biggest Festival and Pride of the Nation), the ECI portrays elections as a significant celebration of democracy and national pride.
- A targeted campaign, #MeraPhelaVoteDeshkeLiye, encourages first-time voters to engage in the electoral process.
- The Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative utilizes celebrities and influencers to spread voter awareness, including the production of the short film “My Vote, My Duty.”
