IRDAI Assistant Manager Selection Process
As per last year’s IRDAI Grade A Notification, the Assistant Manager selection process comprises three stages. To get the final selection, every aspirant must clear all three stages of the IRDAI exam. These stages are:
- Phase 1 (Prelims Exam)
- Phase 2 (Descriptive Exam)
- Phase 3 (Interview)
What is the IRDAI Grade A Selection Process?
IRDAI Assistant Manager Exam is a three-tiered process. The Phase 1 is only qualifying in nature and is not considered in the final selection. Check out the detailed IRDAI Assistant Manager Selection Process below:

IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 Exam Pattern
The Phase I exam is conducted online and includes multiple-choice questions. The question paper is available in both Hindi and English, making it easier for candidates from different language backgrounds.
The total duration of the exam is 90 minutes, and it carries a maximum of 160 marks. All the questions are grouped into four sections, allowing candidates to attempt each part based on the exam structure. This stage helps assess a candidate’s basic understanding and readiness for the next phase of the recruitment process.

IRDAI Grade A Phase 2 Exam Pattern
The Phase II exam includes three descriptive papers: Paper I, Paper II, and Paper III. In this stage, all questions will appear on the screen, and candidates must write their answers on answer sheets. The paper I is based on the English language, has a duration of 1 hour, and carries 100 marks.
Paper II focuses on Economic and Social Issues related to the insurance sector, also lasting 1 hour with a total of 100 marks. Paper III covers important topics from Insurance and Management, with a duration of 60 minutes and a maximum of 100 marks. All tests will be available in both English and Hindi, except the English language paper, which will be offered only in English.

- Candidates must appear for all three papers in Phase II (Descriptive Examination).

IRDAI Grade A Phase 3 Interview Process
The Phase III stage of the IRDAI recruitment process is the Interview round, which is conducted only for candidates shortlisted from the Phase II Descriptive Examination. IRDAI will later announce the interview venue, date, time, and other details on its official website, where candidates must download their call letters.
Vacancies with no eligible candidates in a particular stream will be shifted to the Generalist stream. Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) may be selected using relaxed standards if there are not enough qualified candidates under the general standard, provided they are fit for the post. No requests for changes in interview schedule or venue will be accepted, though IRDAI may make changes if needed. The final selection will be based on the combined score of Phase II and the Interview, with a weightage of 85% for Phase II and 15% for the Interview.
