MeitY Launched Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC)

On August 9, 2023, the MeitY (Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology) introduced the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC) at an event held in New Delhi’s India Habitat Centre. MeitY, along with CCA and C-DAC Bangalore, is leading this challenge. Representatives from these organizations jointly launched the browser development challenge during the event. The challenge brochure was also revealed by them during the occasion.

Aim

The Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC) is an open competition aimed at inspiring and empowering technology enthusiasts, innovators, and developers across India to create a homegrown web browser.

Prize

With a total prize pool of ₹3.41 crore, the winner will be awarded ₹1 crore and will also receive support to further develop the browser.

Participation

The program saw the participation of over 200 individuals from government departments, industries, startups, and academia through online and offline modes. A panel discussion was held, where MeitY, CCA, and C-DAC officials answered participants’ queries.

The program concluded by inviting innovative minds to join the challenge and create an Indian Web Browser.
