Ministry of DoNER Signs MoU with UNDP

On August 22, 2023, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) came together for a significant collaboration. This event took place in the presence of Shri B.L. Verma, the Minister of State for the Ministry of DoNER and Ministry of Cooperation, and Ms. Ulrika Modéer, the UN Assistant Secretary-General & Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA).

MoU between the Ministry of DoNER and UNDP

During this occasion, an MoU was signed between MDoNER and UNDP. According to this agreement, UNDP will offer technical assistance to MDoNER in several areas, including accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhancing monitoring and evaluation processes, building capacities, supporting districts and blocks with aspirational goals, assisting in implementing emerging technologies for governance and expanding successful practices. This partnership aims to promote sustainable development and positive change.

Focus on North Eastern Region

Throughout this journey of development, UNDP has emerged as a pivotal partner. It has played a vital role in promoting decision-making based on data, particularly through the North East Region District Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index. This index has been instrumental in shaping the flagship PM-DevINE scheme. This scheme, in turn, is designed to channel resources toward infrastructure and social development, with a particular focus on enhancing livelihood opportunities in the NER. This emphasis on empowerment extends especially to women and the youth, aiming to uplift their quality of life.

Ms. Ulrika Modéer Appreciates India’s Efforts

Ms. Ulrika Modéer expressed her admiration for the Government of India’s dedicated efforts in expediting the development of the North Eastern Region.
