UGC allows online degrees

University Grants Commission approved the UGC (Online Courses) Regulations, 2018.

This enables higher education institutions to offer certificate, diploma and degree programmes in full-fledged online mode.

A minimum National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) score of 3.26 on the 4-point scale is required.

UGC is a statutory body set up by the Indian Union government in accordance with the UGC Act 1956 under Ministry of Human Resource Development.

It provides recognition to universities in India and disburses funds to such recognised universities and colleges.

‘Clean Air India Initiative’ launched

Prime Minister of Netherlands Mark Rutte launched the ‘Clean Air India Initiative’ in New Delhi.

The campaign aims to curb air pollution in Indian cities by promoting partnerships between Indian start-ups and Dutch companies.

Clean Air India Initiative- is a collaborative project between Get in the Ring, a platform for start-ups, the government of the Netherlands, Start-up India, and INDUS Forum, an online matchmaking platform of Indian and Dutch businesses.

The focus was severe air pollution in Delhi caused by burning of Paddy straw in neighbouring states Punjab and Haryana.

Govt. schools to get grants for buying sports equipment

Centre will give government schools grants for buying sports equipment to promote sports in schools.

This is an integral part of Samagra Shiksha, a scheme to make school education an integrated whole from pre-school to Class-12.

Every primary school will receive sports equipment at a cost of ₹5,000, upper primary school ₹10,000 and secondary and senior secondary school ₹25,000.

Nepal first country in south-east Asia to eliminate trachoma: WHO

Nepal has become the first country in south-east Asia to eliminate trachoma, world's leading cause of preventable blindness of infectious origin.

Trachoma was the second leading cause of preventable blindness in the Himalayan nation in the 1980s.

Trachoma is a chlamydial infection which happens due to lack of hygiene, unclean water supply and can spread by contact with eye, nose, or throat secretions of a person suffering from the disease or indirectly via flies.

The infection is particularly common among children.

SIDBI to extend direct funding facility to VLEs in CSCs

CSC SPV and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) signed an MoU for providing financial support to CSCs across the country.

With this SIDBI seeks to extend financial support to the Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) of CSCs, with minimum one year of operation, under the Direct Financing Window of SIDBI.

CSCs is improving women's health and hygiene through Stree Swabhiman initiative.
