India would host the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026, at Gandhinagar (Gujarat) on 15th-18th September, 2026. During the inaugural session of the two-day programme, the ‘Rajbhasha Gaurav’ and ‘Rajbhasha Kirti’ Awards for the year 2025–26 being presented by the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.Several important books and publications will also be launched during the inaugural session and other sessions.

Bankers' Books Evidence Act, 2026 which got assent of the President of India is aimed at providing a modern framework for the use of banking records as evidence in line with contemporary banking practices, will come into force from October 1.The Act adopts a technology-neutral approach by recognising banking records maintained in physical, electronic,
digital, virtual, cloud-based and other contemporary forms. It also provides for simplified and standardised certification of banking records, including through manual, digital or electronic signatures. These reforms reflect the government's continued commitment to modernising laws in line with technological advancements and evolving economic needs,
promoting ease of doing business and strengthening a modern and efficient financial system.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 27.30 lakh on Asset Care & Reconstruction Enterprise Limited (ACRE) for violating regulatory requirements relating to the charging of management fees.
Its supervisory review found non-compliance with directions on income recognition.
After examining ACRE’s response to the show-cause notice, further submissions and representations made during a personal hearing, the regulator concluded that the charge relating to management fees was established.
The penalty has been imposed under the provisions of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and
and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002.
RBI clarified that the action relates to regulatory compliance deficiencies and should not be construed as a finding on the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by ACRE with its customers.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has proposed changes to the settlement methodology for derivatives, market timings and certain operational aspects of the closing auction session (CAS), weeks after the new closing price mechanism came into effect. Under the proposals, settlement prices for index and
single-stock derivatives on expiry days could either continue to be based on the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of trades in the last 30 minutes of continuous trading, or move to a blended methodology that takes into account trades during the last 30 minutes of continuous trading and 10 minutes of CAS.
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched the “Face Auth SDK & Sandbox”, a software development kit and testing platform aimed at helping developers integrate Aadhaar-based face authentication into digital services. The offering was unveiled on the second day of Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai.
It brings together ready-made software components and a controlled testing environment, enabling developers to build and test face authentication-based services before deploying them for users. The new SDK is designed to simplify the technical process of integrating Aadhaar face authentication into digital platforms.
Developers can use the software tools to incorporate face-based identity verification into their applications and services, while the sandbox allows them to test these integrations in a controlled environment before launch. The initiative could help reduce the time, development effort and
technical complexity involved in deploying face-based identity verification, particularly across fintech and other digital services. With the launch of the SDK and sandbox, UIDAI is seeking to make Aadhaar face authentication more accessible to developers and support the wider adoption of secure,
technology-driven digital identity verification across India’s digital ecosystem.
The Indian Air Force’s First ‘Dronathon-2026’ commenced today at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer. The three day event aims to strengthen the national goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and enhance the Indian Air Force’s operational capabilities in the unmanned systems domain.
It brings together domestic manufacturers to showcase their capabilities and advancements in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS technologies.
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS), inaugurated the event. He highlighted the nation’s growing capabilities in unmanned technologies and
stressed the importance of developing indigenous defence technologies. During the three-day event, companies from the country’s defence and technology sectors will conduct live demonstrations of their indigenous drone and anti-drone technologies. The focus of the event is on drones and
technologies designed to counter them rather than fighter jets or missiles. Domestic manufacturers, startups, innovators from across the country are showcasing their capabilities in Dronothon-2026.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment today informed that, as on date, the Naya Bharat, Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign has reached more than 34.54 crore citizens. These include over 13.70 crore youth and 10.64 crore women. More than 1 lakh 67 thousand Nasha Mukti Mitras have also joined the campaign to strengthen community participation.
Over 31.40 lakh awareness and outreach activities were conducted across the country. Mr Pant said that the Ministry aims to mobilise more than 10 Crore citizens through both physical and online participation to undertake the National Mass Pledge Against Drug Abuse.

India and MERCOSUR have signed the First Additional Protocol to the India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), marking an important step towards facilitating paperless trade and modernising customs procedures between India and the MERCOSUR countries. The move is expected to facilitate the transition towards digital and
paperless trade documentation, reduce transaction costs and processing time associated with the issuance and verification of Certificates of Origin, and improve the efficiency of preferential trade under the existing India-MERCOSUR.
The Protocol was signed by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal, Ambassador of Uruguay to India Alberto Guani,
and Ambassador of Paraguay to India, Fleming Raul Duarte Ramos, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Mario Lubetkin.
The signing also represents a significant step in the ongoing engagement between India and MERCOSUR to further strengthen and expand their trade and economic partnership.
The India-MERCOSUR PTA was signed on the 25th of January in 2004 and entered into force on the 1st of June in 2009. The Agreement provides preferential tariff concessions on 450 tariff lines by India and 452 tariff lines by the MERCOSUR side. MERCOSUR is a South American economic and political trade bloc founded in 1991.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed a new framework under which banks will temporarily freeze only the disputed transaction amount, rather than the entire account, when unusual transfers of Rs.1000 or more are flagged as potentially linked to mule accounts or cyber fraud.
Banks will be required to use AI-based transaction monitoring systems to identify transfers that are sudden, disappropriate to a customer’s declared profile, or linked to a known cyberfraud network.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav announced that Gujarat has achieved a major environmental milestone by completing mangrove plantation across 27,000 hectares in Kutch under the ‘MISHTI’ scheme, accomplishing a significant portion of its 29,000-hectare target. The Minister, along with his team,
visited the scientific nursery in Jakhau, which was established to raise mangrove and seaweed species adapted to local tidal conditions, with active participation from local coastal communities and the Border Security Force (BSF). As part of wildlife protection and the Cheetah Project,
33 patrolling and rescue vehicles were flagged off for the forest department. Additionally, the Union Minister also inaugurated the ‘Saira Van Kavach’ under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, featuring over 10,000 plants of 49 species across one hectare, along with apiculture setups.

India produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final in Dubai, securing a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title. The victory also helped India avenge their defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final. It was India’s sixth win over Sri Lanka in an Asia Cup final across the ODI and T20
including the 2004 edition when India defeated Sri Lanka 5-0 in the two-team tournament.

Top-ranked India’s Dhiraj Bommadevara scripted history by becoming the first Indian male recurve archer to win gold at the World Cup Final, edging Japan’s Nakanishi Junya in a thrilling shoot-off at Saltillo in Mexico.
The 25-year-old World Number 10 Army man produced a dominant run, powering through the quarterfinals and
semifinals before overcoming world No. 20 Nakanishi 6-5 in a hard-fought five-setter. After a 5-5 tie, Dhiraj prevailed 10-9 in the shoot-off. He also ended a 16-year wait for an Indian male recurve archer to win a medal in this prestigious event. Jayanta Talukdar was the last male recurve archer to win a medal – a bronze in Edinburgh 2010.
Dola Banerjee remains the only other Indian to have won World Cup Final gold, claiming the women’s individual title in the 2007 edition in Dubai.
In Hockey, India’s men’s and women’s teams have clinched the Junior Asia Cup titles at Moqi in China today. The Indian Men’s team defeated South Korea four-one in the final to successfully defend its title. Ajeet Yadav, Anmol Ekka, Prabhdeep Singh and Ashu Maurya scored for India.
With this victory, India became the first team in the history of the tournament to win the Men’s title four times, following earlier triumphs in 2015, 2023 and 2024.
The Indian women’s team also emerged victorious, defeating hosts China one-nil in the final. Sanika Chandrakant Mane scored the only goal in the 17th minute to secure the title for India.
The victory completed a hat-trick of Junior Asia Cup titles for the Indian women’s team, which had previously won in 2023 and 2024.
Both the Indian men’s and women’s teams have also qualified for the Junior Hockey World Cup by winning their respective Asia Cup titles.
In Para Badminton, Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Pramod Bhagat secured gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category and teamed up with Sukant Kadam to win silver in the men’s doubles SL3-SU5 at the Japan International.The six-time world champion, Bhagat produced a dominant performance in the singles final,
defeating fellow Indian, Umesh Kumar 21-16, 21-8 to clinch the top honour. Bhagat then partnered Kadam in the men’s doubles SL3-SU5 category final, where the Indian pair went down 5-21, 15-21 to Indonesia’s Hikmat Ramdani and Fredy Setiawan, settling for silver. The tournament was particularly special for Kadam,
who took his career medal tally to 100 over 12 years of competitive badminton.
In tennis, India’s SD Prajwal Dev, partnering France’s Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine, has won his second ATP Challenger doubles title at the Sport Festival Challenger in Phan Thiet, Vietnam.
The top-seeded Indo-French duo defeated Japan’s Yamato Sueoka and Naoki Tajima 6-1, 7-6 in the final . This is Dev’s second ATP Challenger Tour doubles title.
His maiden title came in 2023 at the President’s Cup in Kazakhstan, where he partnered fellow Indian Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha.
In tennis, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina defeated Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to win the US Open women’s singles final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. This is Rybakina’s first US Open title and her third career Grand Slam championship, following her Australian Open victory earlier in the year.
With the win, Rybakina officially takes over the WTA world No. 1 ranking from Sabalenka.
Earlier, American Christian Harrison and Britain’s Neal Skupski clinched the men’s doubles title, defeating Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
The American-British pair won the final 6-4, 7-6 to claim their second Grand Slam title of the year,
after their Australian Open victory in January.
The men’s singles final will be played between Germany’s World No. 2 Alexander Zverev and local favourite Ben Shelton in New York.
United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation is observed annually on 12 September to promote solidarity, knowledge-sharing, and cooperation among developing countries.

Wholesale price-based inflation rose to 9.92% in August, compared to 9.78% in July, on rising prices of food, manufactured items, and fuel and power. Inflation in the food index rose to 7.05% in August, from 6.65% in July. In manufactured items, WPI inflation was at a series high of 8.37%, higher than 8.29% in July.
In the fuel and power basket, wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation was 22.93%.The Reserve Bank's monetary policy committee, last month, kept benchmark policy rates unchanged at 5.25% and projected retail inflation at 5% for FY27, citing deficient and uneven South-West monsoon amidst El Nino conditions.

India has crossed 80 lakh human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations, marking another important milestone in strengthening preventive healthcare and protection against HPV infection and associated cancers. The nationwide HPV vaccination campaign was launched on February 28 to vaccinate girls aged 14 years.
The single-dose Gardasil-4 vaccine is administered free of cost at government health facilities, including Ayushman Arogya Mandirs -- primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), sub-district and district hospitals and government medical colleges.
Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14 September. Hindi was adopted as the official language of the Union on 14 September 1949. Article 343(1) states that the official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script. Article 351 deals with the development and promotion of the Hindi language.
Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar is presented annually on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar is also associated with Hindi Diwas. Udant Martand was the first Hindi-language newspaper.
Arun Bhoomi was the first Hindi newspaper of Arunachal Pradesh.
Atmanirbharta was selected as Oxford’s Hindi Word of the Year 2020. Suryabala received the 34th Vyas Samman (2024) for Kaun Des Ko Vasi: Venu Ki Diary. The 12th World Hindi Conference was inaugurated in Fiji.‘Tomb of Sand’ became the first Hindi novel to win the International Booker Prize.
World Hindi Day (Vishwa Hindi Diwas) is observed on 10 January.
