With the rapid expansion of mobile connectivity and digital services across India, the misuse of telecommunication identifiers, including the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of mobile devices, has emerged as a matter of serious concern. Such misuse can compromise the safety of citizens and
pose risks to the security and integrity of telecommunication networks. The Government of India has put in place stringent legal provisions to prevent tampering with and misuse of unique telecommunication identifiers.
In a significant step towards realizing the vision of Water Secure India and Viksit Bharat 2047, the Ministry of Jal Shakti will host the Departmental Summit on 1-2 September 2026 at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. The Summit is the first in a series of Departmental Summits envisioned by Hon'ble Prime Minister,
Shri Narendra Modi as an innovative platform to strengthen cooperative federalism, foster collective ownership of national priorities, and accelerate outcomes through closer Centre-State collaboration.
The two-day Summit will focus on four key thematic pillars: timely implementation of water infrastructure projects; Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari-Catch the Rain; source sustainability of drinking water systems; and operation and maintenance of rural drinking water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. Discussions will cover project implementation,
inter-agency coordination, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, digital monitoring, asset management, and strengthening community-led water governance.
The consultations are expected to culminate in concrete and time-bound outcomes, including accelerated completion of ongoing projects,
enhanced public participation in water conservation, strengthened sustainability of drinking water sources, and improved accountability for reliable rural drinking water services. Participating States will present the key outcomes and action plans emerging from the deliberations before Shri Narendra Modi during the valedictory session.
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission (RKM), for the implementation of the nationwide initiative ‘Creating Intergenerational Bonding’ in the National Capital.
The MoU will be signed at Ramakrishna Mission, Paharganj, New Delhi, in the gracious presence of Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar; Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri B.L. Verma; Secretary, MoSJE, Shri Sudhansh Pant; Joint Secretary, DoSJE, Shri Sajeesh Kumar N.;
and Secretary, RKM, Swami Sarvalokananda. The initiative seeks to strengthen emotional and cultural bonds among children, parents and grandparents through play-based and evidence-informed activities delivered through the school system.
A memorandum of understanding was signed in Delhi between Bihar and Jharkhand on sharing Sone River water in the presence of Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah. Formal consensus has been reached to allocate 5.75 million acre-feet (MAF) of the river water to Bihar and 2 MAF to Jharkhand.
The two States had a dispute over sharing 7.75 MAF of water allocated for the then undivided Bihar under a 1973 agreement. Under the 1973 Bansagar Agreement, out of the total 14.25 MAF of Sone river water, 5.25 MAF was allocated to Madhya Pradesh, 1.25 MAF to Uttar Pradesh, and 7.75 MAF to then-undivided Bihar.
After Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in 2000, a dispute arose between the two States regarding the sharing of the 7.75 MAF of water, which remained unresolved for the past 25 years. The agreement will improve water availability, particularly in the plateau and drought-prone regions of South Bihar and Jharkhand.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Javelin Joint Venture, a partnership between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, to explore co-producing the Javelin All Up Round missile in India.
The agreement positions Tata Advanced Systems as the prime partner for future in-country production after an evaluation of multiple companies based on capability and technical expertise. The partners plan to examine the creation of a dedicated final assembly and integration facility, along with component manufacturing capabilities in India.

Jio Platforms Ltd has received final approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to proceed with its proposed initial public offering (IPO), paving the way for a potential Rs.37,700 crore ($3.8 billion) issue that could become India’s largest-ever stock-market listing.
SEBI issued its observation letter on August 28, clearing the digital-services arm of Reliance Industries to move forward with the proposed offering. Jio Platforms had filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) in June, and Reliance Industries subsequently confirmed receipt of the regulatory approval through a stock exchange filing.
Under the proposed structure, Jio Platforms plans to issue up to 270 million fresh equity shares with a face value of Rs.10 each. The issue represents approximately 2.93 percent dilution of the company’s post-issue equity base.
If completed at the estimated issue size, the IPO would surpass Hyundai Motor India’s Rs.27,859 crore offering in 2024,
making it the largest IPO in India by issue size. A significant portion of the proceeds is expected to be used for reducing debt at Reliance Jio Infocomm, Jio Platforms’ telecom subsidiary. Around Rs.27,500 crore has been earmarked for repayment or prepayment of outstanding borrowings,
while the remaining funds will be deployed for general corporate purposes.Kotak Mahindra Capital Company is serving as the lead manager for the transaction. SEBI’s approval remains valid for 12 months, during which Jio Platforms will need to complete the remaining regulatory and procedural requirements, including filing updated offer documents.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) monthly transactions touched a record 24.51 billion in August 2026, worth Rs.29.82 trillion, data shared by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Transaction volume rose 3.6 per cent compared with July, while transaction value declined 0.2 per cent.
This was the second consecutive month in which UPI posted a record transaction volume, after clocking 23.66 billion transactions worth Rs.29.88 trillion in July. In value terms, the record so far was in May,
when transactions worth Rs 29.9 trillion were recorded.
Compared with the same period last year, UPI transaction volume rose 22 per cent in August, while value increased 20 per cent.Daily transactions in August rose to 791 million in volume from 763 million in July. In value terms, daily transactions stood at Rs.96,205 crore in August,
compared with Rs.96,383 crore in July. Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transactions declined by over 1 per cent to 360 million in August, compared with 364 million in July.In value terms, IMPS transactions also declined 1 per cent to Rs7.04 trillion from July. In June, IMPS transactions stood at 354 million in volume and Rs 6.77 trillion in value.
The number of daily transactions rose from 11.21 million in July to 11.32 million in August, while their value increased marginally from Rs.230 crore to Rs.232 crore during the same period.
