S Somnath, who led Chandrayaan-2 rocket launcher project, appointed ISRO chief, to succeed K Sivan

The Centre appointed S Somanath as the Secretary of the Department of Space and the Chairman of the Space Commission.

His new appointment is for a combined tenure of three years from the date of joining of the post.

Sh. S Somanath will succeed K Sivan, who completes his extended tenure on January 14.

PM security breach: SC appoints Justice Indu Malhotra as probe panel head

The Supreme Court has set up a five-member committee headed by retired top court judge Justice Indu Malhotra to probe into the security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Punjab visit on January 5.

Bench of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli made the decision to appoint an independent committee.

Centre forms 3-member committee to probe into PM Modi's security lapse

The ministry of home affairs constituted a three-member committee to probe into the serious lapses in the security arrangement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab's Ferozepur. Indian Railways renames Kevadiya station as Ekta Nagar railway station

The Ministry of Railways has approved the renaming of the Statue of Unity’s Kevadiya railway station. This Gujarat’s railway station which falls under the Vadodara division has been renamed as ‘Ekta Nagar’ railway station.

It falls under the Vadodara division under Western Railway zone of Indian Railways.

The station code of Ekta Nagar railway station will be EKNR.

AISCD gets approval to hold first World Deaf T20 Cricket championship in 2023

The All India Sports Council of the Deaf has got approval from the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) to host the first World Deaf T20 Cricket Championship in Kerala from January 10-20, 2023.This championship was planned to be conducted in 2020-21 but due to the sudden outbreak of coronavirus it was postponed first to 2022 & now fixed for 2023.

Indian passport becomes 83rd most powerful globally in 2022, up from 90th rank

The power of the Indian passport has improved, with the country climbing seven places to rank in 83rd place in the Henley Passport Index, up from the 90th position in previous year's rankings.

Olympic medalist Deon Lendore dies aged 29

Deon Lendore, an Olympic and world championship medalist from Trinidad and Tobago, died in a car accident in Texas.

He was 29.

According to Texas A&M University, for whom Lendore had worked as a volunteer assistant coach over the past two seasons, the sprinter was returning home from practice when he was involved in an automobile accident.
