Pankaj Gupta appointed as MD and CEO of Pramerica Life Insurance

Pankaj Gupta has been appointed as the MD & CEO of the Pramerica Life Insurance. Gupta will succeed Kalpana Sampat.

Pramerica Life Insurance Limited is a joint venture between DIL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Piramal Capital and Housing Finance Limited and Prudential International Insurance Holdings, Ltd. (PIIH), a fully owned subsidiary of Prudential Financial, Inc.

31 Indian states have implemented ‘PM CARES for Children’ scheme: ILO-UNICEF report

An ILO-UNICEF report on Social Protection for Children said 31 Indian states have implemented the national ‘PM CARES for Children’ scheme launched during the pandemic with 10,793 full orphans (children who have lost both parents) and 151,322 half-orphans (children who have lost one parent) due to the pandemic taking the benefit of the scheme.

Globally, just 1 in 4 children covered by social protection: 2nd ILO-UNICEF joint report

A new UN report titled 'More than a billion reasons:The urgent need to build universal social protection for children' notes only 26.4% of children aged 0-15 years are shielded by social protection, leaving the remaining 73.6% exposed to poverty, exclusion & multidimensional deprivations.

Some 1.77 bn children aged 0-18 yrs lack access to a child or family cash benefit.

Former CJI A M Ahmadi passes away at 91.

Former Chief Justice of India Aziz Mushabber Ahmadi passed away.

He was named Chief Justice of India in October 1994, making him the third Muslim to hold office.

Judge Ahmadi was born in Surat in 1932. He was the 26th Chief Justice of India, serving from 1994 to 1997.

He served as chancellor at the Aligarh Muslim University for two terms.

RBI imposes Rs 3.06 Crore penalty on Amazon Pay (India)

Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of three crore six lakh sixty six thousand rupees on Amazon Pay (India) Private Limited for non-compliance of certain directions related to Prepaid Payment Instruments and Know Your Customer.

Amazon Pay is the digital payment arm of e-commerce giant Amazon.

India Has Significantly Less Academic Freedom Now Than 10 Years Ago: New V-Dem Report

In a 2023 update to its ‘Academic Freedom Index,’ the V-Dem Institute has noted that India is among 22 countries and territories out of 179 in the world, where institutions and scholars enjoy ‘significantly less freedom today than 10 years ago.’

India was behind immediate neighbours Nepal (0.86), Pakistan (0.45) and Bhutan (0.46) and before Bangladesh (0.25) & Myanmar(0.01)

Indian Open Jumps Competition 2023: Long jumper Jeswin Aldrin breaks national record to make Asian Games cut

Jeswin Aldrin made an 8.42 jump to break the previous record held by M Sreeshankar. Four athletes made the cut for the Asian Games.

He set a new national record to win the gold medal in the men’s long jump event at the Indian Open Jumps Competition 2023 in Bellary, Karnataka.

A court in Belarus has sentenced Nobel Peace Prize winner Ales Bialiatski to 10 years in prison.

He was convicted of smuggling and financing "actions grossly violating public order".

Bialiatski was one of three winners of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.

RBI puts restrictions on Musiri Urban Co-operative Bank; caps withdrawal

The Reserve Bank of India imposed a Rs 5,000 cap on withdrawals by individual customers from Tamil Nadu-based Musiri Urban Co-operative Bank as part of several restrictions slapped on the lender due to its deteriorating financial condition.

The restrictions on the lender will remain in force for six months from the close of business on March 3 and are subject to review.

World's First 200-Meter-Long Bamboo Crash Barrier, Bahu Balli, Installed On The Vani-Warora Highway

A 200-meter-long-bamboo crash barrier, named Bahu Balli, has been installed on the Vani-Warora Highway in Vidarbh, Maharashtra by NHAI.

The recycling value of the bamboo barrier is 50-70% whereas that of steel barriers is 30-50%.

The bamboo species used in the making of this barrier is Bambusa Balcoa, which is treated with creosote oil and coated with recycled HDPE.
