Day of the Seafarer | 25 June

The Day of the Seafarer (25 June) was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the revised STCW Convention. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.The theme for 2024 is #SafetyTipsAtSea.

In December, 2015, the Ministry of Coal approved a comprehensive policy framework for UCG in coal and lignite-bearing areas. In alignment with this policy, Coal India selected the Kasta coal block to implement UCG technology tailored to Indian geo-mining conditions. The first phase, which commenced on June 22, 2024, involves preparing a Technical Feasibility Report.

S&P Global Ratings retains India's growth forecast for FY25 at 6.8%

The S&P Global Ratings on 24 June retained its growth forecast for India at 6.8 per cent for FY25, citing high interest rates and lower fiscal boost tempering demand in the non-agricultural sectors. For FY26 and FY27, S&P projected India’s economy to grow at 6.9 per cent and 7 per cent, respectively.

S&P Global Ratings retains India's growth forecast for FY25 at 6.8%

The rating agency expects the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to reduce its policy rate to 6 per cent in the current financial year from 6.5 per cent at present. Additionally, it anticipates further cuts in the lending rate to 5.5 per cent and 5.25 per cent in 2025-26 and 2026-27, respectively.
