India has emerged as the world's leading ship recycling nation in 2025, ranking first globally. India's share of global ship recycling increased to 35.4% in 2025 from 30.1% in 2024, according to the latest report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Ship recycling in India rose significantly to 2.99 million gross tons (GT) in 2025, up nearly 60% from 1.86 million GT in 2024. With this achievement, the target set under Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 to become the world's leading ship recycling nation has been achieved well ahead of schedule.
On this occasion, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, said, "India's emergence as world's top ship recycling nation reflects the success of sustained policy reforms, industry efforts and adherence to international environmental and safety standards under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) today celebrated its 23rd Foundation Day, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, members of the internet community, academia, and technology experts to reflect on India's digital journey and discuss the future of internet-led growth.
A key highlight of the celebrations was the launch of four new digital initiatives by the Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and Chairman, NIXI. These included the IX Portal, myIRINN Portal, .IN Auction Portal, and an AI-Powered WHOIS Screening Platform.
The portals are aimed at enhancing user experience, improving operational efficiency, bringing transparency and strengthening monitoring and verification processes across India's internet ecosystem. The AI-powered WHOIS screening platform will help enhance domain name security and strengthen the detection of suspicious websites hence strengthening India's .in domain space.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has deferred the implementation of the revised Kisan Credit Card (KCC) directions by six months to January 1, 2027, from the proposed July 1, 2026, after accepting stakeholder feedback on operational and technology-related challenges, the central bank said in a release.
The central bank also said KCC loans sanctioned before January 1, 2027, will continue to be governed by the existing KCC guidelines until maturity or the next renewal.
The RBI accepted suggestions to align the definition of crop seasons with existing income-recognition and asset-classification norms.
It also incorporated references to District Level Technical Committees (DLTCs) in the directions and included an indicative list of technological interventions under the framework.
Zerodha Fund House launched the mutual fund (MF) industry’s first lifecycle funds, offering investors target-date investment options maturing in 2036 and 2041.
Lifecycle funds are a new category introduced by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) in February 2026 in a bid to expand goal-based investment solutions.
The category was created to help investors align investments with specific financial milestones such as retirement, children’s education or home purchase.
Under the framework, fund managers follow a pre-defined asset allocation path that gradually reduces risk as the target year approaches, eliminating the need for investors to periodically rebalance their portfolios.
The two Zerodha schemes will invest in a mix of asset classes including equity, debt and commodities like gold and silver, the fund house said, adding that there will be some arbitrage exposure too.

The Centre has reappointed Tushar Mehta the Solicitor-General (SG) of India for a further term of three years from July 1.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the reappointment, ensuring continuity in the government’s legal representation before the Supreme Court and other constitutional courts.
Mr. Mehta will continue in office for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Centre also reappointed five Additional Solicitors-General (ASGs) for the Supreme Court for a fresh three-year term.
Vikramjit Banerjee and K.M. Nataraj will continue from July 1, while Suryaprakash V. Raju, N. Venkataraman, and Aishwarya Bhati have been reappointed from June 30.
In a separate decision, Chetan Sharma was reappointed Additional Solicitor General for the Delhi High Court for six months from July 1.
Mr. Mehta, who first joined the Centre’s legal team inas an Additional Solicitor-General in 2014, has served as the Solicitor-General since October 2018. He has represented the Union government in several landmark cases involving constitutional interpretation, Centre-State relations, national security, taxation, electoral reforms, citizenship issues, and digital regulation.

The fruit of Mandu’s iconic Baobab tree, known locally as Khurasani Imli, has secured a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, a move that officials believe will safeguard the species’ legacy while creating new livelihood opportunities for tribal communities that have preserved it for generations.
Khurasani Imli, a light green fruit with a tangy sweet-sour flavour, grows across villages in the Mandu region. Tribal communities have traditionally used not only the pulp but also the tree’s juice and dried bark for treating ailments such as diabetes.
Officials estimate that more than 1,000 Baobab trees are spread across the Mandu area, making it the only region in India with such a large population of the species. The horticulture and agriculture departments have initiated efforts to establish a cooperative society that would help organise the marketing of Baobab-based products.
