The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier telecom R&D centre under the Department of Telecommunications(DoT), Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has signed a MoU with Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad(IITH), a leading institution of national importance, to advance research and innovation in next-generation communication technologies.
As part of this strategic collaboration, C-DOT is establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Hyderabad. The CoE aims to accelerate indigenous research, innovation, and capacity building in advanced communication domains, with a strong focus on wireless communications, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, and AI-driven applications.
This initiative marks the fourth such CoE established by C-DOT, following similar CoEs at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, and IIT Roorkee, thereby further strengthening the national innovation ecosystem.
The CoE will serve as a dedicated hub for high-impact R&D and will strengthen academia–industry synergy by leveraging the academic excellence of IIT Hyderabad and C-DOT’s expertise in indigenous telecom solutions.
It will enable students, researchers, and startups to contribute to India’s technological self-reliance and innovation journey.
The centre will undertake joint research and prototype development in emerging domains such as 5G Advanced/6G technologies, very large-scale MIMO systems, integrated sensing and communication systems, AI-enabled communication networks and devices, and quantum & post-quantum communications.
C-DOT has already engaged with WISIG a startup incubated at IIT Hyderabad for the development & deployment of disaggregated 5G O-RAN solutions. Building on this foundation, the CoE will further support startups, facilitate intellectual property creation, & promote continuous knowledge exchange through workshops, training programs & collaborative academic industry engagement

Bangladesh joined the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) as its new member, taking the total count of member countries of this treaty-based global entity to 27.
The Alliance, India’s brainchild, was established in 2024 with the aim of conserving seven big cats -- tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar and puma -- in coordination with other countries. Except for jaguar and puma, India is home to five big cats.
Besides the founding member India, the countries that have already formally joined the IBCA as its members include Russia, Cambodia, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Armenia, Ethiopia, Mongolia, Rwanda, Angola, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia, among others.

Elevation Capital backed Skydo has secured an international payments licence in Canada, becoming the first Indian cross-border payments platform to be licensed overseas, in a move that marks its first regulatory approval outside India and advances its global expansion.

The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday issued final rules for a proposed expansion of the country's credit derivative market, after the federal finance minister proposed deepening it in this year's budget.
The rules will allow resident Indian non-retail users to deploy instruments such as credit default swaps and total return swaps without any restrictions on purpose, while limiting the use of these instruments by non-resident users for hedging purposes.

Credit derivative contracts with non-residents may be settled in Indian rupees or a foreign currency
The ministry of heavy industries has extended the deadline for receiving bids under the rare earth permanent magnet incentive scheme following a demand for more time by industry.
The last date has been extended by a month to July 29 from June 29. Technical bids will also be opened a month later on July 30.
The global tender was floated by the Ministry on March 20, 2026 for selection of manufacturers as beneficiaries under the rare earth permanent magnet scheme.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released draft master directions on secondary market transactions in government securities, bringing under a single framework the rules governing outright trades, when-issued transactions and short selling.
The central bank has invited comments on the draft directions from market participants and other stakeholders.
The draft expands the scope of the framework to explicitly cover a wider set of market participants, including retail investors, demat account holders and investors transacting through recognised stock exchanges, in addition to entities accessing the Negotiated Dealing System-Order Matching (NDS-OM) platform.

The International Fencing Federation (FIE) and the Fencing Association of India (FAI) have signed an MoU in New Delhi to strengthen cooperation for the development and promotion of fencing in India ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The MoU was signed by Abdelmoniem El Husseiny, Interim President of the International Fencing Federation (FIE), and Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General of the Fencing Association of India (FAI) and Secretary General of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA), on the sidelines of the Asian Fencing Championships 2026 in New Delhi.
The partnership focuses on athlete development, fan engagement, and increasing the sport’s visibility. Officials said the collaboration aims to build a stronger ecosystem and inspire the next generation of fencers.
A team of researchers has discovered a new genus and species of tiger moth from the southern Western Ghats.
Published in the internationally renowned, peer-reviewed Journal of the Lepidopterists’ Society, the new species has been named Antaram idukki. Belonging to the tiger moth subfamily Arctiinae (Erebidae), the species was discovered in Kerala’s Idukki district.
The study was carried out by an international collaborative team comprising scientists and naturalists, including Aparna Sureshchandra Kalawate of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Western Regional Centre, Pune; Alberto Zilli, former senior curator of Lepidoptera at the Natural History Museum, London;
Muhamed Jafer Palot of the ZSI, Western Ghats Regional Centre, Kozhikode; and Balakrishnan Valappil, a moth enthusiast and naturalist.
According to the research team, the newly discovered genus appears to be extremely rare, and its larval host plant and life history remain unknown. Habitat degradation and vegetation changes may threaten its survival before its biology is fully understood, they warned.
Moths, the closest relatives of butterflies, belong to the order Lepidoptera. They are highly diverse insects that play key ecological roles as pollinators and as a major food source for many animals.
They said Idukki, in the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the eight “hottest hotspots” of biological diversity, was facing growing pressures from unregulated tourism, habitat degradation, land-use change, and human-wildlife conflict despite its ecological significance.
