Indian economist Kaushik Basu awarded prestigious Humboldt Research Award

Kaushik Basu is a professor of economics and the Carl Marks Professor of International Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University.

He was the Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2012 to 2016, and Chief Economic Adviser to the Indian government from 2009 to 2012.

Malvika Bansod wins RSL Lithuanian International Badminton crown

India's Malvika Bansod defeated Rachael Darragh of Ireland in straight games to clinch the women's singles crown at the RSL Lithuanian International badminton tournament.

The third seeded Indian got the better of fourth seed Darragh 21-14 21-11 in the summit.

A few weeks ago, Malvika reached the quarterfinals of the Austrian Open.

Antarctica hits record temperature of 18.3 degrees Celsius, UN World Meteorological Organization confirms report

According to the UN agency, the high temperatures in Antarctica are a result of a large high-pressure system creating "fohn conditions", which are downslope winds creating significant surface warming.

The earlier record temperature for the Antarctic continent, according to the WMO, was 17.5°C.

The Antarctic Peninsula is among the fastest-warming regions on the planet.

Two-time Olympic gold medal-winning hockey legend Keshav Datt died due to age-related ailments, marking the end of a glorious era in the sport.

Datt was 95.

He was part of India's historic feat at the 1948 Olympics.

He was conferred with the Mohun Bagan Ratna award in 2019, becoming the first non-footballer recipient of the honour.
