The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved Phase 2(A) of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project with corridor for a length of 6.032 Km with 05 stations (04 Elevated and 01 underground). On operationalisation of Phase 2(A), Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar will have 77.63 Km of active Metro Rail Network.
The names of stations in the Phase 2(A) Corridor are- Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar and Airport.
The total completion cost including IDC (Interest during Construction) for the project will be Rs.2,169.04 crore.
This phase aims to seamlessly integrate key zones, including residential & Commercial hubs with existing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor. Further, likelihood of sports facilities also being developed in the vicinity for the World Police Games 2029 and Commonwealth Games 2030.
The Union Cabinet passed a resolution marking June 10, 2026, as an historic milestone in the journey of Indian democracy applauding Shri Narendra Modi for becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of the country.
By establishing a record of 4,399 days of continuous service as an elected PM, he has surpassed the previous record held by Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, who served for 4,398 continuous days from 1952 to 1964.
Extending its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Prime Minister, the resolution highlights that this achievement coincides with the NDA government completing 12 years under his leadership. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the construction of the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) at New Capital City, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. This marks the first GPRA project in the capital city of Amaravati, as well as within the State of Andhra Pradesh.
The Government of India has approved extension in validity of the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions-2.0 (CGSMFI-2.0) upto 31.8.2026 or till guarantees for an amount of Rs. 20,000 crore are issued, whichever is earlier.
The Government of India has also approved increase in maximum loan amount capped to Large Sized NBFC-MFIs/MFIs from Rs. 300 crores to Rs. 1000 crores under the overall ceiling of 20% of Assets under Management (AUM).
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved acquisition of certain shareholding in Shriram Life Insurance Company Limited by Sanlam Emerging Markets (Mauritius) Ltd.
The proposed combination envisages acquisition of 2.80% of the expanded equity capital of Shriram Life Insurance Company Limited (SLIC) through a preferential issue by Sanlam Emerging Markets (Mauritius) Ltd. (SEMM).
SEMM, incorporated in Mauritius, is a part of Sanlam Group of South Africa.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved acquisition of certain shareholding in PUMA SE by Ancat Holding GmbHm.
The proposed combination involves the acquisition by Ancat Holding GmbH (Ancat) (an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of ANTA) of 29.06% of the issued and outstanding share capital of PUMA SE (PUMA) by way of a secondary share purchase.
Ancat is an acquisition vehicle and does not carry on any business activities, whether in India or outside. ANTA is principally engaged in the research and development, design, manufacturing, marketing and sales of sports products including footwear, apparel and accessories.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has announced that Varanasi now enables international travellers to complete immigration and baggage formalities before reaching Delhi and connect seamlessly onwards to destinations across the world.
He informed that Varanasi is the first city to be integrated into the Easy Connect flights model. He also defined this as a significant step towards making India a global aviation hub, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of taking world-class connectivity beyond the metros.

The mission will undertake a series of challenging tests in Earth orbit in 2027, essential for Artemis IV, the first planned crewed mission to the lunar South Pole in 2028.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched Vinimay, a Land Port Management System (LPMS) aimed at digitising and streamlining cargo processing and passenger movement across India’s land borders.
During the launch of the portal, the Union Home Minister said that LPMS is designed as a “modern, digital, integrated and real-time management platform, bringing all stakeholders onto a single interface.”
LPMS, or Vinimay, is a unified digital platform developed by the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) to integrate operations across the country’s land ports into a single ecosystem. The platform will enable a secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information among multiple stakeholders.
State-owned Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) announced Kumar Shanker’s appointment as the Managing Director of the North India’s largest city-gas distributor, succeeding Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, who shall be repatriated back to parent Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) following a three-year stint at the company.
Prior to joining IGL, Mr. Shanker served at the Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) which too is a joint venture between GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corp with equity participation from the Maharashtra government.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said it has cancelled the certificate of registration of 135 non-banking finance companies.
These include companies such as Express Fincap House, Akshay Fiscal Services, Times Finance (P), Jupiter Projects (P), Jupiter Finvest, Essel Finance Business Loans, and Citiwide Financial Services.
The majority of the NBFCs, whose certificates of registration were cancelled, had a registered office address in West Bengal, an RBI release showed.
Separately, 13 non-banking finance companies have surrendered their certificates of registration to the central bank due to exiting the business or ,
ceasing to be legal entities following amalgamation/merger/dissolution/voluntary strike.
J. Thomas Finance, Econ-Super Sales, Hitesha Finance and Investment, Tinnevelly Tuticorin Investments, Carnex Vinimay, and Impact Leasing surrendered their licences due to exit from Non-Banking Financial Institution (NBFI) business, the release said.
Further, Forerunner Capital Investments' licence was surrendered due to meeting the criteria prescribed for unregistered Core Investment Company (CIC) that do not require registration.
NBFCs such as Caspian Impact Investments, Hari Darshan Sales, Ivory Consultants, SKA Consultancy Services, Trishita Management, and Suban Trades surrendered their licence due to the NBFC ceasing to be a legal entity due to amalgamation/ merger/dissolution/ voluntary strike-off, etc, the release added.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) consolidated regulatory instructions relating to risk management, compliance and internal audit functions for commercial banks, requiring lenders to establish dedicated control functions headed by a chief risk officer (CRO), chief compliance officer (CCO) and head of internal audit (HIA).
The Centre has exempted petrol blended with higher proportions of ethanol from central excise duty, a move aimed at promoting the use of cleaner fuels and accelerating the country's ethanol blending programme.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Revenue, petrol containing 22 per cent to 30 per cent ethanol will attract nil excise duty.
The notification inserts separate entries for E22, E25, E27 and E30 petrol blends and prescribes a nil duty rate for such fuels, subject to specified conditions and compliance with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications.
The decision comes after India achieved its target of 20 per cent ethanol blending in petrol and is now exploring the adoption of higher blends.
The government has been encouraging ethanol use as part of its strategy to reduce dependence on crude oil imports, improve energy security and lower carbon emissions.
The policy is also expected to benefit sugar mills and grain-based distilleries, which have emerged as key suppliers of ethanol under the blending programme.
Indian Men’s Hockey team has lifted the Under-18 Asia Cup for the third time, thrashing hosts Japan 4-1 in the final in Kakamigahara on Saturday. For India, Ashish Purti starred with a hat-trick as skipper Ketan Kushwaha scored the other goal. Gaku Numada scored the only goal for the hosts. Meanwhile, Indian Women’s team clinched bronze after beating South Korea 3-0.
Hockey India announced a cash award of INR 3 lakh for each player of the gold medal-winning Indian U-18 Men’s Hockey Team and INR 1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff. The Federation also announced a cash award of INR 1 lakh for each player of the Indian U-18 Women’s Hockey Team, which secured the bronze medal, along with INR 50,000 for each member of the Staff.
Tani Purti was awarded Player of the Match for his stellar performance in the final and was also recognised as the tournament’s top scorer with an impressive 13 goals. India further dominated the individual honours with goalkeeper Ayush Rajak being named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Indian wicket-keeper and batter KS Bharat has announced his retirement from international cricket. He represented India at Test level on seven occasions, with his last appearance coming against England at Visakhapatnam in February 2024.
The 32-year-old made 19 dismissals as keeper. Bharat was also part of India’s XI for the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia at The Oval in June 2023.
