President of India Graces Swachh Amrit Mahotsav and Presents Swachh Survekshan Awards 2021

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, addressed the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav and presented the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2021, being organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi. He appreciated the ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge' initiative of the MoHUA which has been started in 246 cities with the aim to promote mechanical cleaning of sewers.

On the eve of completion of 5 years of the scheme and celebration of Awaas Diwas on 20th November, 2021, States/UTs have undertaken various activities to celebrate the Diwas such as Bhoomi Pujan, Gruh Pravesh, visit of beneficiaries to demonstration houses, sensitization of beneficiaries about PMAY-G etc. It was launched on 20th Nov, 2016 with effect from 1st April'16.

PM Modi laid foundation Stone of 50 new Eklavya Model Residential Schools on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

The construction drive of Eklavya schools got a big boost after the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid foundation of 50 schools on 'Janjatiya Gaurav Divas' as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on 15th November 2021 virtually from Bhopal. These schools are being set up in 26 districts of 7 States and 1 UT.

EPFO plans to invest 5% of annual deposits on InvITs, alternative funds

Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), its the meeting of its Central Board of Trustees (CBT), has approved measures to invest up to 5 per cent of its annual deposits in infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) and other alternative funds. The CBT empowered Finance Investment and Audit Committee (FIAC) to decide upon the investment options.

Centre puts on sale MTNL, BSNL assets worth about ₹1,100 cr

As per the documents uploaded on the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) website, the Centre has listed for sale real estate assets of the struggling government-owned telecom giants MTNL and BSNL at a reserve price of nearly ₹1,100 crore. The asset monetisation is part of the ₹69,000 crore revival scheme for MTNL and BSNL.

India, world’s largest recipient of remittances, World Bank Report

India, the world’s largest recipient of remittances, received $87 billion in 2021 with the United States being the biggest source, accounting for over 20 per cent of these funds, according to the World Bank. India is followed by China, Mexico, the Philippines, and Egypt. In India, remittances are projected to grow three per cent in 2022 to $ 89.6 billion.

Venezuela claims Guinness World Record for largest orchestra

Venezuela's National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras known as "El Sistema" — has set a new Guinness record for the world's largest orchestra with 8,573 musicians playing together, the country's government said on November 20. A week ago more than 12,000 musicians played a classical piece together for more than five minutes as they sought to beat Russian record.

India-built Jaffna Cultural Centre awaits inauguration

Nearly two years after its construction, the India-funded Jaffna Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province awaits inauguration, amid persisting uncertainty over who will run the facility.

The structure, with 11 floors and facilities, including an auditorium that can seat 600 persons, a conference hall, an amphitheatre and a digital library, was completed in 2020.

New tree species named after Muthuvar tribe

A new tree species of the genus Cryptocarya spotted in Edamalakkudy in Idukki district has been named after a tribe from the locality.

‘Cryptocarya muthuvariana’ has been named so to honour the Muthuvar tribe and as it was discovered in their neighbourhood, researchers responsible for the identification said.
