RBI approves Inderjit Camotra's appointment as Unity SFB MD & CEO

Unity Small Finance Bank Ltd said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved Inderjit Camotra's appointment as its MD and CEO. Unity SFB is a joint venture between Centrum Group and Bharatpe.

A 51:49 joint venture between Centrum Group and payments company Bharatpe, Unity SFB started operations in November 2021.

West Bengal to get 7 new districts, announces CM Mamata Banerjee

The six of the seven new districts that were announced are -- Sunderban, Ichhemati, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, and Behrampur. One district will be named in Basirhat.

As per Census 2011 figures, almost 4 million people lived in each of West Bengal’s 23 districts on average — among the highest in the country.

Nallathamby Kalaiselvi appointed as CSIR DG, 1st woman to head India's top scientific body

Nallathamby Kalaiselvi was appointed as the Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

After resuming the chair as director of CSIR, Sh. Kalaiselvi will now lead the consortium of 38 research institutes in the country.

Kalaiselvi is the successor of former CSIR director Shekhar Mande, whose tenure ended in April this year.

CWG 2022: Dipika Pallikal-Saurav Ghosal Win Bronze In Mixed Doubles Medal Squash

India’s Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Saurav Ghosal won the mixed doubles bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK.

They defeated Australian duo Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley 2-0.

Saurav Ghosal also clinched India’s first-ever medal (Bronze) in the singles category at the Commonwealth Games.

SSLV-D1/EOS-02 mission: Isro says satellites placed in wrong orbit, no longer usable

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) said the satellites EOS-02 and Azaadi SAT on board its maiden Small Satellite Launch Vehicle “are no longer usable” after the SSLV-D1 placed them on an elliptical orbit instead of a circular one.

US Navy Ship arrives in India for repairs for first time ever, major boost to 'Make in India' initiative

Viswanathan Anand elected FIDE deputy president, Dvorkovich to continue as president

Grandmaster and five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand has been elected as the deputy president of FIDE, the international chess body.

Russian and incumbent president Arkady Dvorkovich was successfully re-elected as FIDE President.

Dvorkovic received 167 votes in his favour while opponent Andrii Baryshpolets got 16.

Sharath Kamal, Sreeja Akula win mixed table tennis gold for India at Commonwealth Games

India's Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula defeated Malayasia’s Javen Choong and Karen Lyne 3-1 to win the Commonwealth Games 2022 mixed table tennis gold medal in Birmingham.

Earlier in the tournament, India’s men’s team comprising the seasoned Sharath, G Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty had won the gold medal after beating Singapore 3-1 in the final.

South Korea launches its first lunar orbiter, Danuri

South Korea launched its first lunar orbiter, which is expected to reach the Moon by mid-December. Nicknamed Danuri, meaning "enjoy the Moon", the Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter was launched on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida by Elon Musk's aerospace company SpaceX.

80 Years Of Quit India Movement- August 8th
