Ex-SC judge Ashok Bhushan appointed NCLAT chairman for 4 years

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Retired Supreme Court (SC) judge Justice Ashok Bhushan as the chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) for 4 years from the date of assuming the charge or till the time he turns 70 years of age. Currently, Justice M Venugopal is the Acting Chairperson of the appellate tribunal.

The post fell vacant after M.S. Sahoo retired after a five-year tenure on September 30.

Indian Navy’s stealth frigate Tushil launched in Russia

The first of two additional Krivak or Talwar-class stealth frigates, Tushil, being built in Russia for the Indian Navy, was formally launched. EAC-PM reconstituted, Bibek Debroy retained as chairman

The government reconstituted the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) for another two years retaining Bibek Debroy as its chairman. While Rakesh Mohan, Poonam Gupta and TT Ram Mohan have been appointed as its new part-time members, V Anantha Nageswaran has been dropped.

Apart from Debroy, Neelkanth Mishra, Nilesh Shah and Sajid Chinoy have been retained.

RBI eases current account opening rules for exposure below Rs 5 cr

For borrowers, where the exposure of the banking system is less than ₹5 crore, there is no restriction on opening of current accounts or on provision of CC/OD facility by banks, subject to obtaining an undertaking from such borrowers that they shall inform the banks, as and when the credit facilities availed by them from the banking system reaches ₹5 crore or more.

AIIB, ADB to co-finance USD 2 billion loan for India’s fight against COVID-19

The co-finance facility will provide loan for India to procure COVID-19 vaccines under ADB’s Asia Pacific Vaccine Access Facility (APVAX). AIIB is considering providing USD 500 million and the ADB is expected to finance USD 1.5 billion. About 667 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were expected to be procured through the loan.
